Hyundai Teases Genesis G90 Flagship Sedan
The upcoming Genesis G90 luxury sedan teased in official Hyundai sketches!
Hyundai has only recently announced the addition of the Genesis luxury sub-brand, but there is already a lot of news about what to expect.
The upcoming models will have names that consist of a capital letter G and numbers such as 70, 80, and 90.
The new Genesis G90 will be out soon, and Hyundai has released some sketches of what will be the flagship model for the Genesis brand.
The G90 will be known as the EQ900 in the domestic market.
Genesis G90 is replacing the Equus flagship sedan
The G90 will basically serve as a replacement for the current Equus full-size sedan, which we have been seeing prototypes of for quite some time. The design is in part inspired by the recent Vision G concept car, but there are also some shades of Audi in there.
Hyundai has created a new design language that they are calling Athletic Elegance, and the G90 will be the first vehicle to sport the strong, muscular new look. The standout features of the new style will be a hexagonal-shaped grille, updated headlights, and the new Genesis logo.
As of yet, Hyundai has not revealed any technical details for the vehicle, but we expect the G90 to comes with a V8 engine under the hood in the US.
There is also the chance that a twin-turbo V6 will come along at a later date. The G90 will likely come standard with rear-wheel drive, but AWD should also be an option, too.
The G90 should debut in December, with an official US sales launch coming during the second half of next year.
Hyundai Vice Chairman Woong-Chul Yang said that the G90 will herald in a new concept of luxury for the Genesis brand, and will serve as the flagship for the new sub-brand. This is just the beginning for Genesis, though, as there is a lot more to come in the next few years.
By the time 2020 rolls around, Hyundai will have 6 models all operating in the Genesis brand.
The first of those will be the current Genesis sedan, which will be renamed the G70 after it is given a mid-cycle refresh.
The G90 will follow, with a next-generation Genesis Coupe hot on its heels. That latter model will likely get the G80 nametag. Future releases will include two crossover models and a small sedan.
