Video: Hyundai Genesis Mid-Cycle Facelift Spied Testing
It’s spy shot time again, and this time round we have footage of the upcoming Hyundai Genesis facelift.
If you haven’t heard the latest news out of Hyundai, the vehicle name may not be familiar.
That is because the G80 will be a facelifted version of the Hyundai Genesis luxury sedan, and it will appear under the new Genesis luxury sub-brand nameplate.
This will be the second model in the brand line-up, with the G90, which replaces the Equus flagship sedan, being the first.
The Genesis prototype model seen here at the video has a front end that looks a bit like a Chrysler 300C (front signature grille), but it remains to be seen if that will be what the final production model looks like.
Since this is a mid-cycle facelift, the overal shape of the vehicle should remain pretty much the same, but there will be some tweaks to make the Genesis worthy of its newly attributed luxury model status.
There should also be some upscale additions made to the interior, with new tech and better materials used in the cabin. That tech will most likely come in the form of new safety and assistance systems.
There is a pretty good chance that the 5.0LV8 engine will be dropped in favor of the 3.3L twin-turbo V6 seen in the test model of the next-generation Genesis Coupe, which also featured an 8-speed automatic transmission.
According to sources close to the automaker, it was Hyundai’s N performance division that have engineered the powerplant that is expected to deliver app. 480 horsepower.
The Genesis facelift (aka Genesis G80) is expected to arrive later next year as a 2017 model year.
