Exclusive Matte Gray color for the Hyundai Veloster Turbo
The 2013 Veloster Turbo will be the very-first Hyundai vehicle available with matte gray color!
Hyundai’s recent successes have placed them among the best in the mainstream automakers industry, but their latest release is set to put them in with a group that is considered to be the elite.
The upcoming 2013 Veloster Turbo will have a matte gray color option, which is a shade that has traditionally only been available on such cars as the Lamborghini Gallardo, Audi R8, and a few special edition BMW’s.
The color may be unique, but the feeling is that it’s about to go mainstream.
While the matte gray color may hold elite status, it’s getting the Hyundai treatment, which means quality at an affordable price. The color option can be had for a mere $1,000 more than the base Vesloster Turbo price which comes in at $21,950.
Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik has gone on record as saying that he believes the matte gray color will be so popular they may not be able to keep up with the demand from the consumer.
It would appear that Krafcik may very well be correct in his assessment if the results of a media drive of the Veloster Turbo are anything to go by.
After getting its workout in La Jolla, CA, Hyundai representatives predicted that the take rate of the matte gray version of the Veloster would account for 8-9% of total sales.
What that basically adds up to is that the demand will far outweigh the supply. That’s not really anything new for Hyundai Motor America who have become accustomed to the demand for its new products outstripping the supply.
It’s not a bad problem to have, but Hyundai is working hard to increase production numbers to meet that demand.
Krafcik was quick to explain that the supply of the matte paint scheme was limited due to the additional work that is required in the application process.
What it comes down to is that the time the car has to spend in the paint booth at the Ulsan, Korea production plant reduces the ability to paint other vehicles. He went on to say that the number of gray matte Velosters in production isn’t enough to reduce overall capacity, but it does place a burden on the painting system.
While the demand for the gray matte finish means that you are likely to see it on the road in the very near future, it does come with a warning to owners.
They have been advised NOT to take their matte gray Veloster through automatic car washes, but will be provided with a special detailing kits and instructions on how to properly wash and wax the car.
Krafcik said that the Matte Gray Hyundai Veloster Turbo is definitely for those that prefer the hand wash option.
