Hyundai 1.6L T-GDI Turbo Engine Packs 208 Horsepower
Hyundai unveils new 1,6L T-GDI turbo 4-cylinder engine that generates 208 horsepower!
Hyundai Motor Company expands its 4-cylinder “turbo” engine family with the introduction of a brand-new 1.6L T-GDI turbo unit.
Based on the existing 1.6L GDI four-cylinder engine, which currently propels the Hyundai Accent, Veloster coupe and the Korean-market Avante sedan, the new turbo unit boasts a twin-scroll turbocharger which significantly improves the engine response and performance.
At the same time the turbocharger increases efficiency at low engine speeds, which increases combustion efficiency and lowers emissions.
Hyundai’s new turbo engine also features gasoline direct injection technology which further contributes to improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.
1,6L T-GDI specs: horsepower rating, torque
The 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder engine generates 208 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 27 kgm, which is available from 1.600 rpm to 5.000 rpm.
Hyundai models to get turbo power
According to Hyundai, the very-firts vehicle in their range to adopt the highly potent turbo engine will be the new Hyundai Veloster 3-door coupe (release date in late 2012), while later the unit will also appear in the upcoming Hyundai i30 hot hatchback (2015 model year) and next-generation Kia cee’d.

The new 1.6L turbocharged gasoline direct-injection engine is part of the carmaker’s new initiative called Blue Drive, which aims to lead the automobile industry in fuel efficiency and sustainability.
