2013 Veloster Turbo gets 18-inch Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires
In keeping with the sporty style of the 2013 Veloster, Hyundai has decided to give their consumers a high performance summer tire option on the base Veloster as well as the Turbo model.
Performance enthusiasts are sure to be delighted at the tire that Hyundai have chosen, with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires considered the perfect match for the sport coupe.
Automotive experts consider the Pilot Super Sport summer tire as one of the best on the market, given that it delivers wet/dry grip, cornering and braking performance.
Combine that with a smooth, comfortable ride and great treadwear characteristics and it’s easy to see why this tore is so widely acclaimed.
Veloster tire & driving improvements
Hyundai performed numerous tests on the tires, with the Pilot Super Sport tires delivering incredible results.
Skid pad lateral-acceleration performance increased from 0.82g to 0.94g when tested against the standard 2013 Veloster tire. There was also a dramatic improvement in braking at 60-0 mph, with decreases from 135 ft. to 121 ft., and wet braking decreasing from 157 ft. to 136 ft.
Mike O’Brien, vice president of corporate and product planning for Hyundai Motor America said that they really listened to car enthusiasts, as well as those in the media, when it came to choosing the tire.
The general consensus was that the Veloster was great to drive, but that it could use an increase in outright grip in order to appeal to the real purists.
He went on to say that the addition of the Pilot Super Sport summer tires option was just another example of the steps that HyundaiSpeed have taken to appeal to a wider audience of car buyers.
Buyers will be able to choose the Pilot Super Sport tire option (215/40ZR18) beginning in September for the 2013 Veloster and 2013 Veloster Turbo vehicles that have 18-inch alloy wheels.
The tire option will add another $1,200 to the price when buying new. Those who already own a Velsoter with 18-inch alloys can take advantage of the tire upgrade by having the Pilot Super Sport summer tires installed at their local Hyundai dealer, depending of course upon availability.
