List of Hyundai models scheduled to go on sale in 2016 and 2017…
The Hyundai line-up has been growing and becoming more refined since back in 2010, to the point where the brand has a vehicle in just about every segment other than pickup.
The current trend, though, is towards SUVs and crossover vehicles like the Santa Fe and Tucson as opposed to adding new nameplates.
Let’s have a look at the 2016 and 2017 Hyundai models that are about to hit the U.S. market this year.
Hyundai hybrid / EVs
Joining the Sonata hybrid will be the Sonata plug-in hybrid car which goes on at the beginning of 2016 (latest update: already on sale in the States).
Another Hyundai hybrid car scheduled to hit the U.S. local stores is the 2017 Ioniq hybrid car, known also as the Toyota Prius “killer”. It will be joined by the all-electric Ioniq EV which goes on sale at the same time as the hybrid version.
The Tucson crossover been released in the USA a couple of months ago (already on sale), while 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe facelift has yet to hit the dealers.
According to latest reports, the Santa Fe SUVs should start hitting the local stores in March 2016.
Latest rumors also suggest that Hyundai may launch a pick-up truck sometime next year (to be officially confirmed).
Hyundai cars, sedans
Expect to see the Accent sub-compact car to be redesigned soon. Some sources state that we may see the 2017 Accent as early as in 4th quarter of 2016.
Hyundai’s top-selling nameplate, the Elantra compact sedan has just received a major makeover, but Hyundai also plans to launch a 2017 Elantra Sport with more potent, 200+ horsepower turbo engine.
The Equus sedan has been renamed to Genesis G90 and it goes on sale within a couple of months, labeled as a 2017 model year.
Another Genesis luxury car that is poised to hit the dealers is the G80 sedan, currently known as Genesis sedan. For the 2017, the G80 will receive a major refresh that will help it show off its luxury status.
Hyundai near-future models
Looking ahead and beyond the 2016, here we have a couple of cool Hyundai models scheduled to make their official North American premieres.
Hyundai Sonata is expected to receive a midcycle facelift in 2017 and will be sold as a 2018 model.
The Azera premium sedan will likely be excluded from the 2017 Hyundai model line-up making some space for the new rear-wheel-drive sporty sedan.
Word is that Hyundai is developing their first-ever true BMW 3-series rival. Codenamed IG, the model is expected to be sold as the Genesis G70 and should go on sale next year.
It’s being reported that Hyundai is also working on a Genesis coupe, but details on that particular model are scarce at this point.
