USA: Hyundai January 2011 sales

Hyundai Motor America announces January 2011 sales of 37.214 new cars, up 22 percent from a year ago.

Since it made a dent in the international motoring scene, Hyundai Motor Company have neither stopped nor slowed down in its rise in the market. In the United States, Hyundai Motor America has recently reported a 22 percent increase in January 2011 sales versus that in 2010, for a record of 37.214 units sold in January this year.

The best-selling Hyundai car in the US was the 2011 Sonata mid-size sedan, with 13.261 units sold against last year’s 5,306. This means a 150 percent increase! Boasting its fluidic sculpture design, affordability and segment-leading safety features, the Sonata has won several motoring awards including the Best New Car Family under $35.000, Interior of the Year and Top Safety Pick of IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety).

The all-new 40-mpg Hyundai Elantra car also performed extremely well this year with 26 percent sales increase. On the other hand, the Equus, Hyundai’s all-new flagship performed better than the flagships of other brands. Genesis also recorded an impressive, continuous sales growth. For its other carlines, the Tucson crossover vehicle sold 2.863 units versus last year’s 2,216, while the Santa Fe SUV went down from 7.204 units to 4.415 units.

“Our January 2011 sales results were encouraging, continuing the momentum of our best year ever, amidst signals that the economy is stabilizing on a trajectory of steady, sustained growth,” said Dave Zuchowski, executive vice president of Hyundai America’s national sales.

Alongside its regular sales performance report, Hyundai Motors America also announced its monthly sales-weighted Corporate Average Fuel Economy -CAFE results. Hyundai sold 4.792 40-mpg EPA fuel economic cars. Beginning this month, Hyundai Motor America will regularly publish reports of its 40-mpg cars.
