L.A. Auto Show Recap – Refreshed 2014 Elantra Family, Nu Engine, Tucson FCEV
New Nu engine, 2014 Elantra, Tucson FCEV and Veloster R-Spec unveiled in L.A.!
Hyundai made a splash at the auto show in Los Angeles recently, unveiling a wide number of updated cars and new technologies.
The refreshed 2014 Elantra was a big for the Korean automaker, but perhaps the most important addition to the updated Elantra range is the all-new 2,0L Nu engine, which churns out 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque.
The engine features Hyundai’s latest gasoline direct injection technology and improved variable valve-timing system.
This makes it more responsive and more efficient too.
The Nu 4-cylinder unit will appear in all Hyundai compact cars, including the Elantra models which is available in the USA as a 4-door sedan, 5-door GT and 2-door coupe!
Speaking of Elantra, the model received a mid-cycle update for the 2014 model year.
All three 2014 Elantra models incorporate slightly updated front and rear fascias, new projector headlights and fog lamps, as well as chrome beltline and an exposed single exhaust tip.
2014 Veloster R-Spec
Teasing younger crowds at the L.A. auto event was the sporty 2014 Veloster Turbo R-Spec .
Expected to cost less than the top of the range Veloster Turbo, the R-Spec model features an accent-colored sideblades and front splitters.
The exclusive Veloster R-Spec also offers a B&M racing shifter and exclusive badges on the floor mats and hatch.
The 2014 Hyundai Veloster R-Spec uses the same powertrain technology as the turbo model.
That means is is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged GDI engine that generates 201 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque.
The Veloster R-Spec will be offered in four exclusive colors only. Those include white, blue, gray and black.
2015 Hyundai Tucson FCEV
The long-awaited Tucson crossover, powered by fuel cells, has finally been officially unveiled.
The upcoming 2015 Tucson fuel cell vehicle goes on sale in the USA in spring next year with a $499 per month lease price on a 36-month term.
