Hyundai Sonata Sport Named Best Midsize Sedan Of 2015 – Here’s Why!
The 2015 Hyundai Sonata may not be the biggest seller in the country, but it got a nice boost this week by winning the Cars.com/USA Today/MotorWeek $27,000 Midsize Sedan Challenge.
Simply put, that makes it the best moderately priced sedan in its class for families that are working with a tight budget.
There’s a reason why midsize sedans are so popular, and that is because they are safe, conservative, and just all around solid.
A midsize sedan is never going to stun you with its beauty, but what Kelley Blue Book says is that they are about as practical as it gets.
They can easily and comfortably seat five, whilst still having plenty of cargo space left over for luggage or groceries.
Combine all of that with the fact that they are incredibly low maintenance, and it becomes easy to see why the midsize sedan is the perfect family vehicle.
Keeping this in mind, Cars.com, MotorWeek, and USA Today decided that the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Sport was the midsize sedan that best checked all those boxes.
The latest generation of the Sonata is certainly head and shoulders above its previous versions. Coming in at just $21,150, the 2015 model comes with a laundry list of premium features, as well as class-leading space, and a 5-star crash safety rating.
Best Midsize Sedan Challenge Requirements
The vehicles that were included in the challenge had to have a base sticker price of under $27,000 including destination charges. They were also required to have a fuel economy of at least 28 mpg.
There were a lot of very good cars that fit the bill, but it was the Hyundai Sonata Sport that topped them all.
Top 5 Sedans
What is sure to come as a surprise to many is that the top-selling Toyota Camry came in at the bottom of the field of ten.
The top 5 was rounded out, in order, by the Subaru Legacy, Mazda6, Volkswagen Passat, and Chevrolet Malibu.
To get an idea of just how close the rankings were, you need only look at the total points. There were only 182 points separating first from last, and just 55 points between 5th and last.
What the consumers can learn from the challenge
First and foremost, you can get a very good car without spending a fortune.
If this is your first vehicle purchase in a while, you might just be surprised at how many standard features you get for the price.
On top of all the great safety features, you can routinely find things like a backup camera, hand-free Bluetooth phone, and streaming audio.
Excellent fuel economy is generally always included, and automakers are now placing a lot more importance on the styling of the cars, as well as the technology that is included with them.
This will continue with each new refresh that the automakers deliver, but they will now have to do even more if they hope to reach the bar set by the Hyundai Sonata.
