Hyundai Unveils Long-Wheel-Base Equus Hermes Edition
Hyundai chose the New York Auto Show to unveil the restyled 2014 Equus, leaving their special limited edition limousine for the Seoul Motor Show.
The limousine was designed in collaboartion with French fashion house ‘Hermes.’
The Equus by Hermes is based on the 2014 model year version, but comes with more luxury features and a longer wheelbase.
There are a few changes to the exterior, withe the inside styled by Hermes designers.
Speaking about the project, Hyundai said it came about after two years of research and design into the pursuit of a modern premium car.
More than 20 items were made specfifically for this concept, with the harmony of color the focus of the interior.
All of the items were hand made by Hermes designes, which includes the many different types of leather used on the door panels. The crocodile leather used is that same that Hermes uses on their legendary handbags.
Designers used aircraft interiors as inspiration for the rear center console of the car. A folding table, cup holders, a water bottle holder, and storage space for a blanket were all included in the design.
Equus Hermes Sales Plans
There are no plans to introduce it to the market, with Hyundai stating that the three vehicles will instead be used to help establish the company as a luxury brand.
This isn’t Hyundai’s first collaboration with a major fashion house, as they have already worked with Prada to co-design a limited edition line of Genesis Prada sedans.
