Hyundai Avante, September 2013 Top-Selling Car In Korea
The numbers are in, so let’s take a look at the September 2013 sales figures in South Korea.
It was a rough sales month for local models in South Korea, with numbers down a rather alarming 13% to 101,021 year on year.
Year-to-date, the total number has taken a -0.2% hit to 1,010,395.
Hyundai Avante’s The Top-Seller
A slight facelift helped keep the Hyundai Avante (sold as Elantra in the USA) the most popular model in the country, moving 9,185 units for a 9.1% market share, the highest for the company since October 2011.
Those solid numbers take the Avante from last month’s #5 year-to-date sales up to #2 this month.
The overall 2013 year-to-date sales of 69,514 units puts it just 123 units off the lead held by the Kia Morning (known as Picanto in Europe).
This looks likely to be the last month in which Kia holds the lead, even though they posted another solid month with 7.4% increase in sales.
Taking third spot in monthly sales was the Hyundai Sonata mid-size sedan with 6,781 units and 6.7%, passing the Hyundai Grandeur for the 3rd spot.
The Hyundai Porter dropped from 3rd to 5th for 2013.
The large number of changes is pretty much down to the fact that all of the cars in the top 5 were within a few sales of each other in the past few months.
The Chevrolet Spark had a strong performance, moving up to 6th spot with 5,514 sales.
The Kia Sorento held steady at #14 with a 2.6% share, while the Chevrolet Cruze showed a strong improvement, going from #23 to #18 and 2% vs. 1.3%. [Source: bbs.danawa.com]
