Elantra Beats Honda Civic To Become The Best Selling Car In Canada
The Hyundai Elantra continues to deliver small sles gains each and every month this year, almost at the expense of the Honda Civic which is heading in the opposite direction.
That trend puts the Elantra in pole position in the race to become Canada’s best-selling car.
The Elantra had 5,535 sales in April, for a 3% year-on-year increase, while the Civic dropped a troubling 9.7% to 5,424.
Year to date figures for the Elantra show a 3.9% increase in sales, while the Civic saw sales drop by 17.6% for the year so far.
DesRosiers Automotive Consultants have informed clients that Hyundai Elantra’s lead for the year is a slim 161 units.
There is a lot to like about the Elantra 4-door sedan, but it may very well be its availability as a hatch that has given it the edge over the Honda Civic.
Honda only has a sedan and coupe available, which does little to satiate the Canadians love for a hatchback, which is what they can get with the Elantra GT.
What makes the Honda decision all the more strange is that the Civic is assembled in Ontario. Should they ever decide to start making a Civic hatch, Canadians may respond positively.
Canada’s Best Selling Trucks
The biggest news to be found in the Canadian Top 10, though, is the performance of the Ford F-Series pickup.
Ford of Canada saw a massive sales jump of 38.3% with their F-Series, selling 12,016 units in April.
Ford has been aggressive in their approach to the pickup segment by using competitive pricing and making updates to their truck.
That may be because they are about to face some real competition from the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra.
