Alabama Hyundai Plant Breaks Monthly Production Record
Hyundai’s $1 billion production plant in Alabama has set a new production record last month.
According to sources close to Hyundai, the carmaker’s U.S. plant rolled off 37,372 new vehicles during the month of April, 172 more than the previous record it set in October 2012.
On top of that, Hyundai is expecting to produce even more vehicles this month as it works hard to keep up with great demand for the fast-selling Elantra and Sonata sedans.
The Montgomery-made Elantra has experienced a continued surge in popularity among the U.S. car shoppers, resulting in a record-breaking sales of 24,445 units.
Hyundai’s Elantra compact car was clearly a surprise winner of the U.S. compact car segment in April with sales soaring more than 40% compared to the same month a year ago.
It was Honda Civic that took the April’s compact car sales crown, but the Elantra moved into second, knocking off the Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Cruze.
The Sonata mid-size sedan also posted strong monthly sales numbers, although its sales were off slightly, compared to a year ago as Hyundai has allocated more production towards the hot-selling Elantra!
Hyundai’s Montgomery-based plant’s new production record came in a month when the company also set an April sales record in the U.S., selling 63,315 new vehicles, up 2% compared to a year ago.
