New Hyundai Solaris makes its official debut in Russia. The 2011 Solaris sub-compact car previews the 2011 US-spec Hyundai Accent.

Hyundai has taken the wraps of its latest sub-compact car called Solaris. The all-new 2011 Hyundai Solaris is based on the RB concept car, which was first previewed at the 2010 Moscow International Motor Show last month. The all-new Hyundai Solaris is also the very-first Hyundai model to be assembled at the automaker’s new manufacturing plant in Russia.

Hyundai says the name Solaris came from the winning entry in a contest to name the first Russian-built Hyundai vehicle. The Solaris name was picked from more than 20.000 submissions, according to Hyundai, and is a word derived from the Latin “Sol”, which implies Hyundai Motor Company’s strong will to expand its business in the country.

As we previously reported, the 2011 Hyundai Solaris will be available in two powertrain configurations. Both four-cylinder engines feature multiport fuel injection and continuously variable valve timing technology. Base 1.4L Gamma engine generates 105 horsepower and 135Nm of torque while the larger 1.6L Gamma engine packs 121 horsepower and 155Nm of torque. Both fuel efficient four-cylinder engines can be mated to either a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic tranny.

The all-new Hyundai Solaris is equipped with some special features that enable the car to accommodate better to the cold Russian weather. Those include standard rear-heating duct, 60 Ah battery for higher cold start performance, 4.0 liter washer fluid reservoir with fluid level sensor, wiper deicer, front seat warmers as well as heated outside mirrors.

Hyundai revealed it plans to sell more than 80.000 units of new Solaris four-door sedan in Russia next year. Sales are expected to raise above 100.000 units with the introduction of the 2012 Solaris hatchback. The 5-door Hyundai Solaris is scheduled to hit the streets in the first half of 2011.

I wonder if this next generation Hyundai B segment vehicle will still be the Accent or have its name changed for North America too? All the chatter is about the new 2011-2012 Elantra being unveiled at the L.A. Auto show this Nov. and the vehicle being assembled in Hyundai`s plant in Alabama. Odd, since in 06` the Accent was introduced about 6-9 months (before) the new generation Elantra and this time, the Accent is trailing. Perhaps they are planning on assembly of both the 2012 Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent at the same plant as well.

This is essentially the 2011/2012 Hyundai Accent. It will be built in Korea and Russia. Korean-built Accents will be imported to the US-market, while those madein Russia will only be sold locally.

Indeed, Hyundai is planning to assemble new Elantra in the USA. Check out our story here:

That 2010 Hyundai Accent for the US market is just so ugly compared to Hyundai Solaris for the Russian market. I absolutely love the car and definetely intend to buy once it is out. Hyundai Russia still didn’t come up with a price tag for it though…
