First official images of the-all new Hyundai ix20 MPV leak to the web.

Earlier this month, Hyundai released the very first official teaser image of its brand-new ix20 model. The futuristic artist rendering previewed Hyundai’s new five-seat mini-MPV, which is set to make its official premiere at the 2010 at the 2010 Paris Auto Show.

Today, four new images of the all-new Hyundai ix20 have hit the web giving us the very-first look at the full-production model. The five-seat Hyundai ix20 MPV is based on Kia Venga, which has been on sale in Europe for about a year now. The ix20 uses the same engine and transmission line-up as its sister model from Kia Motors, but differs slightly from its sibling, by its exterior and interior look.

Designed at Hyundai’s design studio in Germany, the ix20 MPV adopts the automaker’s latest “fluidic sculpture” design language. The model takes some styling elements from the ix35 crossover vehicle (known as Hyundai Tucson in the USA) and other latest Hyundai models. It is evident from the images that the ix20 also features identical side profile as Kia Venga mini-MPV, a whole new front fascia with large hexagonal signature grille and significantly redesigned rear hatch and tail-lamps.

Under the hood, there will be a choice of 1,4L and 1,6L gasoline engines generating between 90 and 128 horsepower. Diesel engines will also be available. Buyers of the new ix20 will be able to choose from 90-horsepower 1.4L engine or 1,6L diesel engine packing 126 horsepower. Manual or automatic transmissions will be available. More technical details about this exciting new Hyundai model be known during the show.

Alongside new ix20 MPV, Hyundai will also put on display the 2011 i10 hatchback, which has received some styling updates and powertrain enhancements for the new model year. The 2011 Hyundai i10 release date will be announced during the automaker’s official press conference scheduled for Thursday, September 30th.

anyone know why every site with this story quotes the 1.4 petrol as 89 or 90bhp? The 1.4 petrol in the current i20 is rated 99bhp. Different breed of horses? Engine tuned for efficiency? Or did the source article just get it wrong?

  2. alextheo says:

no the article is correct. engine is tuned most propably for efficincy. what bothers me is why hyundai will use a 4-speed automatic transmission on this car. just sad…… car will be very well equiped just like ix-35.

  3. HyundaiSmoke says:

The same 1.4 is tuned for 107 HP in all new Hyundai Verna in China.

  4. Hyundai owner says:

I have seen a photo. It is based on Venga and looks smallish. Is it smaller than the Matrix? Oh no.

  5. admin says:

I think that the all-new Hyundai ix20 is about the same size as the model it replaces, the Hyundai Matrix! Although it might be smaller in length for an inch or two, it is wider and features longer wheel-base, which means that the ix20 offers more passenger and cargo space inside in comparison to Matrix.

  6. Hyundai owner says:

I drive a Matrix now and feel very happy about its inner space. If the new one is similar I will go for it. But looks like Matrix has bigger “old-fashioned” windows (which I love too).

  7. EB says:

Admin, do you think they will sell a vehicle like this in the U.S.?

  8. admin says:

Most probably not. The ix20 will be marketed exclusively in Europe, just like its sibling model, the all-new Kia Venga.

  9. moshonis says:

ix20 looks smaller, the interior tighter, crampier. I suppose getting into or our of the car is less comfortable than matrix, overall less comfortable than matrix. yet its engine more economic and faster. It does not feel like a jeep, like a mpv, it looks like an ordinary automobile. I did not like it on pictures but I will definitely see it at a showroom.
