Hyundai Motor Korea Sells 10,000 Kona SUVs In 40 days
The small crossover segment is one of the fastest growing in the automotive industry, and while it took Hyundai longer than most to get involved, it looks as though they are on a winner with the Kona.
The new vehicle has already made a big sales splash in the Korean market, which Hyundai hopes will be repeated when it goes global.
It has been roughly 40 days since the Kona crossover was first introduced in South Korea, and in that time, the orders have already crossed the 10,000 unit mark.
7,000 of those were preorders made prior to the official sale date, while the remaining 3,000 came after the Kona hit showrooms.
Right now, the Hyundai Kona is selling an average of 330 vehicles per day in Korea.

The number of Kona’s delivered in July
The vehicles that were pre-ordered have already started making their way to the South Korean buyers.
Hyundai was able to deliver 3,145 units, taking a 27% domestic market share in the small crossover segment in the process.
The question you probably have is how those numbers compare to the competition, which includes the likes of the SsangYong Tivoli, Samsung QM3, Chevy Trax, and the Kia Stonic, which is made by Hyundai’s sister company.
The Kia Stonic crossover hit the market in mid-July, moving 1,342 units, which is a solid number for a new comer.
As for the other competitors, they saw their sales figures hold steady despite the release of the two afore-mentioned Hyundai-Kia models.
The Trax moved 1,282 units, a 90% increase over the previous year, while the Renault Samsung model jumped 29% over the previous year.
There was a smaller gain for the Tivoli, which saw sales increase by 1.6% over the course of a year.
Kona sales goals in Korea
The domestic sales goal that Hyundai have set for the Kona is 26,000 units per year, which really should not be an issue for them if the vehicle continues to set the same torrid pace that it is delivering right now.
Who’s buying Hyundai Kona?
With so many people going out of their way to get behind the wheel of the new Hyundai Kona CUV, it begs the question as to who Hyundai are specifically targeting.
The automaker have made it clear that they are going after younger drivers with this model, particularly those who have a real sense of adventure.
It would appear as though their plan is working perfectly, as roughly 45% of the Kona’s sold so far have made their way to drivers in their 20’s and 30’s.
Women are also responding very well, with about 51% of the total orders coming from females.
The popularity of the Kona means that buyers are currently having to wait about a month to take possession of the new Hyundai vehicle.
Given the positive response, it seems to be well worth the wait.
