Hyundai Motor America reports August 2010 sales numbers
Hyundai Motor America sales report for the month of August 2010 is here, so let’s check out the latest Hyundai sales numbers.
Hyundai Motor America reported recently that its sales fell 11 percent in August compared with an all-time sales record a year ago when federal Cash for Clunkers rebates drew more buyers to showrooms. Hyundai August 2010 sales decreased to 53,603 vehicles from 60,467 in August 2009.
Several Hyundai models, including the 2011 Sonata, Tucson, Elantra and Genesis posted significant sales gains compared to a year ago. The stylish Sonata sedan continues to perform incredibly well. Last month it has once again taken the top spot in the automaker’s U.S. vehicle line-up and has also been the 4th best-selling sedan in the USA. The model outperformed sedans such as Nissan Altima and Toyota Corolla!
According to the latest sales report, Hyundai Sonata sales totaled 21,399 last month, soaring more than 80 percent compared to a year ago. Through August, Hyundai sold 128,484 new Sonatas, which represents a 51 percent increase compared to a year ago when 85,677 Sonatas were sold. This means Hyundai already sold more Sonatas this year than it did last year!
Sales of Hyundai Santa Fe SUV fell sharply last month. The US-made mid-size SUV experienced a sales decrease of 47 percent. According to the carmaker, Santa Fe sales fell sharply due to the works at the assembly lines. As you already know, Hyundai is relocating the 2011 Santa Fe production from Alabama to Georgia where Kia already assembles its popular 2011 Sorento crossover.
Other Hyundai cars and SUVs that are also doing very well this year include the all-new Tucson crossover and Elantra. Genesis set another all-time sales record in August and is up 27 percent for the year. This marks the 14th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains for the Genesis sedan.
Hyundai Motor America is now preparing to launch its Equus luxury sedan and three additional products, which are all set to join Hyundai’s U.S. lineup in the fourth quarter of the year.

Combined with Kia, Hyundai passed Nissan in the US for YTD in the US this month. Also, in Canada, while Honda brand managed to sell 60 more cars in August, Hyundai brand is 5,250 ahead YTD. Toyota brand was ahead by only 406 cars! H-K as a group again outsold even Toyota (incl Lexus; Scion is included with Toyota sales) in Canada in August. Ford was down right in line with Hyundai after C4C. Fiesta only sold 3,315 in Augusta (though in fairness few were available), nowhere near enough to offset the 10K fewer Focuses sold. The only Fords that were up were Taurus, Crown Vic (all fleet), Expedition, F-Series, and E-Series. Furthermore, HKAG picked up market share in the US, not lost it.
