At least one new Hyundai vehicle to be launched in India each year
Hyundai plans to launch at least one new vehicle in India each year!
Hyundai Motor India revealed it wants to acquire larger market share and boost its sales by unveiling at least one new vehicle to local consumers. “Our plan is to introduce more than one new model every year and refurbish more than one existing model to gain market share,” said the company’s managing director Han Woo Park recently.
Hyundai’s current models on sale in India include the i10, i20 and Santro hatchbacks, Accent sub-compact car and previous generation Sonata sedan. The company has not revealed what cars are set to debut in India, but sources close to Hyundai state that the all-new 2011 Sonata sedan, which is already on sale in Korea and USA, is one of the first vehicles that the automaker plans to roll out in India.
Other vehicles scheduled to be launched in India within next few months include new Santa Fe sport utility vehicle, facelifted versions of Hyundai i10 and i20 hatchbacks and new mini car that will compete against the world’s cheapest car, Tata Nano. The Santa Fe was confirmed to be be introduced as a CBU (completely-built unit) during the fourth quarter of this year. One of new Hyundai cars could also be the all-new Accent/Verna, which was recently unveiled at one of the auto shows in China.
The all-new Hyundai mini-car, which is currently at evaluation stage at Namyang research and development centre, is set to hit Indian roads later this year or early in 2011. The model will be positioned below Santro and will not replace the popular Hyundai mini-car.
Despite its age, the Santro hatch still sells good and demand for it is still high enough to not phase it out. According to Han Woo Park, Hyundai has been selling around 8.000 units of Santro every month in India, therefore the model will stay on sale in India for quite sometime.
