Hyundai Motor America announces best April sales ever
New Hyundai Tucson and Sonata drive Hyundai’s April 2010 sales to record high…
Hyundai Motor America announced today it has sold 44.023 new vehicles in the US market during the month of April 2010. Last month’s sales were up 30 percent compared to the same month a year earlier and were lead by strong performance of Hyundai’s new-comers, the all-new Tucson crossover and Sonata mid-size sedan.
According to Hyundai, April 2010 also marks the 16th consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for the brand, which is a significant achievement for the company.
As we reported on Thursday, the all-new Sonata sedan hit the magic 18.000 units sales for the second straight month. The 2011 Sonata was also the third best-selling mid-size sedan in the US improving its sales from previous year by more than 55 percent.
Speaking of sales performance by model, Hyundai’s Tucson sales increased 271 percent from a year ago to 3,871 units, while sales of its big brother, the Santa Fe SUV soared 59 percent to 5,917 units. On a year-over-year basis, Hyundai Genesis sales were up nine percent to 2,265 units.
Total Hyundai sales in the first four months of the fiscal year also hit an all-time record! The automaker sold 44,023 units in the USA so far.
Dave Zuchowski, vice present of national sales @ Hyundai Motor America told that despite an overall industry increase in the level of sales to fleet accounts, Hyundai remains extremely focused on reducing the fleet mix, improving the quality of the automaker’s market share, and driving more retail volume through Hyundai dealerships
“Widespread acceptance of our new products and growing recognition of Hyundai’s inherent value has allowed us to significantly reduce incentive spending at a time when some of our top competitors were taking a different approach,” added Dave Zuchowski.

Note: Sonata was third in RETAIL sales.

Thats right. Those numbers are actual retail sales units. I don’t believe the fleet sales are included in that list.
As long as Hyundai doesn’t exceed 20k Sonata sales per month, availability for Sonata will be tight but still adequate. Anything over that though, and the Alabama plant will be unable to meet any excess in production output and there will be a supply shortage.
I’m starting to see more and more Sonatas on the road but I’m also hearing that dealers are pushing Hyundai for requests for more Sonata deliveries. Unfortunately, supplies for the Sonata remain tight.
There this no doubt that the Sonata is a mega hit for Hyundai. So the big challenge for them now is be ready and able to meet growing demand. Once both the Hybrid and turbo are released, I think Hyundai will be forced to build their third plant much sooner than they had planned.

@ The Pill

As big of a Hyundai fan I am, in fact I am a Hyundai evangelist!
But if they take away their generous incentives there goes their value proposition. I own two Hyundais but will be looking at a new Honda, toyota or even a ford w/o the 300 cash back I got on my 2009 Sonata that’s for sure!

I mean 3500 cash back I got on my 2009 Sonata

all manufacturers give big incentives in these times to buy, not only Hyundai, if you compare all offers they look similar at the end!

>3rd plant?
Canada and Mexico also highly want new HKAG plant in their country.
if hyundai is not santa clause, I think 2 US plants are enought to them.
I suggest They need focus on BRICs countries than US.
I know America is really important market, but, I hope hyundai don’t heavily rely on america market.
And Hyundai/Kia Korean workers really dislike foreign factories. It is same as GM/Ford factories move to mexico.
if supplies is not enough, I think hyundai need disperse their sonata supply from korea.

@The Pill:
The figures quoted on this page are total deliveries, fleet and retail. The link you gave includes Kia sales in the Hyundai column. The Sonata was within 500 units of the Fusion total, but Ford’s fleet sales crept up, meaning Sonata took 3rd place in total retail sales for the mid-sized family sedan class after Accord and Camry.
In Canada, Hyundai’s total sales beat Honda’s by over 1,100 units, with Hyundai up 15.6% and Honda down 4%. Even throwing in Acura, Honda only sold 601 more cars than Hyundai up there (not including Kia).
