New 2011 Hyundai Elantra makes worldwide premiere
New 2011 Hyundai Elantra makes its official worldwide debut at the Busan Motor Show!
The long-anticipated next-generation Hyundai Elantra has been officially unveiled today at the Busan auto show in South Korea. Hyundai’s best-selling vehicle globally has undergone a complete styling makeover and now features really outstanding exterior design lay-outs and new powertrain technology.
According to Hyundai, the new Elantra is redefining the compact vehicle segment with its innovative styling and state of the art powertrain technology. “It encompasses our latest ambitions, features the best styling and performance in its class” told Steve S. Yang, President and CEO of Hyundai’s Global Business Division.
As seen on images below, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra adopts similar styling cues as its bigger brother, the 2011 Hyundai Sonata. It wears a “Fluidic Sculpture” design theme with four-door coupe styling, which makes it stand-out from other compact sedans.
Under the hood, the all-new 2011 Elantra sedan packs Hyundai’s brand-new 1.6L Gamma engine with Gasoline Direct Injection -GDI technology. The 1.6L engine generates segment-leading 140 horsepower and maximum torque of 167Nm.
This highly advanced four-cylinder gasoline engine is mated to the six-speed automatic transmission (for the first time in Elantra) and is about 10 percent more efficient than any other similar engine currently on the market.
Some of the tech-goodies that will be available include High Intensity Discharge headlamps, LED tail-lamps, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a TFT-LCD display placed in-between the gauge clusters.
Hyundai will commence the sales of new 2011 Elantra compact sedan in the second-half of 2010. It will first go on sale in the South Korean market, while overseas sales are expected to begin shortly after. Pricing for the new Elantra will be released closer to its official US debut, scheduled for the 2010 L.A. Auto Show!

Official press release from Hyundai Motor Company:
Hyundai Motor had its world-premiere of the all-new Avante ( badged as Elantra in markets outside Korea) compact sedan, the company’s best-selling model worldwide, at the 2010 Busan International Motor Show.
With sportier and even more elegant lines than its predecessor, the new Avante continues Hyundai’s fluidic sculpture design philosophy.
Hyundai has applied its latest 1.6L Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission to the front-wheel drive compact, the first time GDI and six-speed automatic have been featured on a compact sedan in the South Korea.
The all-new Hyundai Avante (Elantra) delivers a peak output of 140-ps and maximum torque of 17,0 kg.m. It is also about ten per cent more fuel efficient than its closest competitors, thanks to GDI technology, the six speed automatic gearbox and other fuel economy enhancements.
The 2011 Hyundai Avante (Elantra) will delight and surprise with a raft of other advanced features not found on other compacts, including High Intensity Discharge headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster.

April 29th, 2010 at 7:34 pm
Side and back look very nice and refined.. front end could use a little more refinement.. the dip in the grill area is a little weird.. any interior shots?

April 29th, 2010 at 7:44 pm

April 29th, 2010 at 10:16 pm
The C-Segment Beauty contest winner by far, and this is on a global scale.
April 29th, 2010 at 10:27 pm
10% more mpg than competitors should put it at or over 40mpg highway since the Civic is 37.
Beautiful, beautiful car. Now enough with the * sedans already. Where’s my 5 door Hyundai?
April 29th, 2010 at 10:43 pm
WOOOW! this is goint to take over the world!!!!!!!
absolutely amazing! I have an old 2000 elantra that has proven to be a great car, but when i get this it is going to be like driving a beauiful space ship! I’m so proud of Hyundai!I just hope this comes to europe!
April 29th, 2010 at 11:05 pm
I seriously hope 6 speed auto is not the only choice.
@Eric : I am awaiting the new Elantra touring as well. Hopefully they will put in it a more powerful engine and M/T, kinda like Mazda 3 does.
April 29th, 2010 at 11:47 pm
Outstanding!! Its time for the rest to catch up. The bar has been set. Lets see what the wantabes will compare it to.
April 29th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
The powertrain for KDM 1.6+6speed in this car will likely be the choice for Accent in the US market. That is one sweet deal for Accent when there are still cars coming out with 4 speed in that segment.
Now the question is what Hyundai’s going to do with the Touring model. The car isn’t all that bad but in terms of the fuel efficiency, it’s lagging from the begining. I do not think they can replace that car soon as there isn’t one in a development process at the moment. The mid-cycle update is definately a thing to watch.
April 29th, 2010 at 11:53 pm
This is going to stomp all over the “C” segment in the Compact glass. I would def like to see a 1.8 DI turbo option with 181 horses for the U.S.
This is very doable and Hyundai DEFINITELY has a smokin’ winner here!
April 30th, 2010 at 12:02 am
Mega stunning every angle. Makes others look cod ordinary and second rate! Hyundai and Kia are truly suprising as there designs are stunning as! As for others = ordinary and boring!
April 30th, 2010 at 12:04 am
Hyundai & Kia are on the sales march and gunning up the list for sales success.
Dam svelte classic unreal looker this car, just like the Accent, Sonata, ix35, i30, i20!
April 30th, 2010 at 12:21 am
Yup, trading my ’02 elantra for this beauty
April 30th, 2010 at 1:50 am
2.0 GDi for the US Market. Guys the 1.6 GDi isnt going to cut it for Elantra here. 140 HP in a C segment for 2011-2016 time period will seem downscale and backwards. 140 HP in an Elantra would seem Almost ridiculous in fact, with cars like New Focus/Tracer with 170 HP Standard.
2.0 GDi will get it to 40 MPG. Did you know New Focus only gets 37 MPG?
April 30th, 2010 at 1:53 am
Everybody is going to want to trade in what they have, and these new Hyundais are making out cars even from the 24/7 1.0 Era Obsolete.
I just hope the dealers dont give $3K or less for 5 year old Accents however. That would be a ripoff.
April 30th, 2010 at 2:01 am
VERY NICE, IM IMPRESSED, I WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE THIS & THE NEW 2012 FORD FOCUS, AS FAR AS LOOKS GO I WOULD GIVE THE NOD TO THE ELANTRA, I LOVE THE SWOOPY COUPE LIKE REAR TREATMENT!!
April 30th, 2010 at 2:08 am
AS A PROUD OWNER OF A 2006 MAZDA3s I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS BLOWS THE 2010 MAZDA3 OUT OF THE WATER, THATS COMIN FROM A VERY LOYAL MAZDA OWNER!
April 30th, 2010 at 2:35 am
Really full on hot as this car! Stunning lines and jawdropping!
If people out there are not wrapped, then you are mad or obsessed on one car maker (and stick to same car maker) and like plain looking ordinary things!
Priced right this will sell like hotcakes easy as!
April 30th, 2010 at 2:46 am

Very impressed. The front end is actually my favorite part of this vehicle. The rear tail lights not bad but I think I will like it in person. Those LED lights amazing.
April 30th, 2010 at 5:27 am
Agree with The Pill. Add a turbo to the DI and this should rocket up the sales charts..
Hyundai starting to distance itself from the competition..
It’s getting borderline silly..
April 30th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
At tu Busan Autoshow 2010, Hyundai launch the new Tau V8 4.0L engine
does anybody have infos about this one?
April 30th, 2010 at 7:12 pm
This car looks ahead of its time…even beats out the civic that tries to be futuristic with the digital speedo…overall a looker…:)
April 30th, 2010 at 7:44 pm
New Hyundai Elantra is fantstic looking vehicle. It looks even hotter than 2011 Sonata.
May 3rd, 2010 at 10:42 pm
IN A WORD… WOW!
May 7th, 2010 at 12:20 am
But is it going to come in a 5 door of equal design beauty?
May 27th, 2010 at 8:28 pm

June 9th, 2010 at 11:29 am

Hi gents,
I’ve got a question if I may please; I bought a brand new Elantra 2010 two weeks ago and since I’m not that good driver as great as you are I’d like to know how can I slow car’s speed down depending on the engine.
If I’m on 80 mph speed can I gear to 2 (automatic)and this will slow down the speed with having to break?
This could be the silliest question you’ve ever heard or read in your life but will appreciate any comments.
Harry

Your right silly question. If you in 2nd gear in auto and doing 80mph your quite silly! I suggest you get a manual or a license! Or dont take drugs and get a reality check!
Maybe a learn to drive defensive class so can drive “NORMAL”
August 28th, 2010 at 4:51 pm
This car is a step above the 2011 Sonata in styling!! Hyundai just needs to put a 1.8 or 2.0 GDI engine in it for USA. Does the Avante have cruise control or not? I can’t wait to see the car at the dealership!!
October 8th, 2010 at 3:20 pm
Beautiful design–I actually prefer to the Sonata. Now, for the rest–since beauty is only skin-deep.
November 14th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
What is the delivery date for Canada ?
January 5th, 2011 at 10:27 am
Power punch with gorgeous looks…
April 19th, 2011 at 8:13 am
As all of you have already said, the car is drop dead gorgeous both inside end out, w/outstanding 40mpg. Hyundai has so far raised the Small Car bar higher than anyone else. I also hope the 5 door hatch is as well executed, if there is one? I have not driven this 2012 Elantra yet but I did find that, there is only a short list of “very bland” looking colors to choose from, the dk.blue being the one that shows off the car best. I really do think that was a mistake for Hyundai. A couple of rich and exciting colors helps intensify the cars appearance and sales, especially since great colors don’t change cost.
July 1st, 2011 at 7:53 pm
This is easily the best looking compact car on the market today! The styling is orgasmic, and would take new Elantra over the joker face styling of the new Mazda 3 anyday!!
August 10th, 2011 at 8:51 am
