Hyundai i30 hatchback sales are hot. The model becomes the best-selling compact car in Australia during the month of March 2010.

With 3.678 units sold in March 2010, Hyundai i30 became the top-selling vehicle in the compact car segment in Australia. The multi-award winning i30 range acquired 14.5 percent segment share last month, reported Hyundai Motor Australia.

The i30 hatchback has helped Hyundai to post its best-ever March sales result since the automaker entered the market in 1986. Since then, Hyundai delivered more than 800.000 new vehicles to customers in Australia.

During the month of March 2010, Hyundai sold 7.797 new cars and SUVs in Australia, which is also the company’s second best sales result since the Korean carmaker established the wholly owned subsidiary Hyundai Motor Company Australia. Overall, Hyundai’s March sales increased 58 percent compared to the same month from a year ago.

Damien Meredith, Hyundai’s Director of Sales said he was delighted to see that more and more Australian consumers are discovering the quality and value of Hyundai’s vehicles. He is confident that sales will grow n the future as well, as the company plans to bring more new products to the market.

Already next month, Hyundai will launch the all-new i45 (Sonata) sedan, while in the summer, the company plans to unveil the i20 compact hatch to fight the popular Ford Fiesta. [Source: Hyundai]

Hyundai sales by model:

- The i30 hatchback sales last month increased by more than 10 percent compared to March 2009. The model posted its best ever sales in Australia!

-Hyundai Getz sales were up 15 percent from the same month a year ago. With 1.836 units sold, Getz ranked second in the sub-compact car segment.

- The all-new Hyundai ix35 sold 533 units in its first full month on the market.

- Hyundai iLoad and iMax posted sales of 629 and 290 units, respectively.
