Hyundai i45 mid-size sedan to be launched in Australia
Hyundai i45 mid-size sedan to hit the continent “Down Under” in the second quarter of 2010.
Just recently launched Hyundai Sonata sedan received rave reviews from most prominent automotive media in the US. The model has created quite some buzz among Hyundai fans, as well as other automotive enthusiasts.
Hyundai now wants the hype to continue elsewhere in the world, particularly in Australia, where the carmaker has been gaining on popularity. Over the past couple of months, Hyundai recorded a few best-ever sales months ever since it entered the market. And for your record, those impressive sales numbers were achieved without having a brand-new Sonata sedan and Tucson crossover in the line-up.
The all-new Hyundai Tucson was launched in Australia just last week, while new Sonata is going to debut in the second quarter of 2010. Both models adopted Hyundai’s European nomenclature, so they are called the ix35 (Tucson) and i45 (Sonata) on the continent “Down Under”.
The all-new Hyundai i45 incorporates Hyundai’s brand-new styling approach called “fluidic sculpture”. It features modern powertrain technologies and new luxury features, but at the same time remains to be one of the best values for money.
According to Hyundai, the i45 does not differ from US-spec Sonata sedan. It comes available with a six-speed automatic transmission mated to new 2.4L Petrol Direct Injection (GDI) four-cylinder engine. It also achieves best-in-segment fuel economy ratings and provides class-leading safety for the driver and passengers.
The main difference between Sonata and the i45 is location where Hyundai builds them. While the US-spec Sonata sedan comes from Hyundai Motor’s manufacturing plant in Alabama, Australian bound i45s are being produced in South Korea.
“We are very excited to be launching the all-new Hyundai i45 mid-sized sedan in Australia in the coming months, said Oliver Mann, managing director at Hyundai Motor Company Australia. “The all-new Sonata is already breaking sales records at its home South Korean market and receiving awards in the U.S. market, so the all-new i45 sedan is also expected to make a considerable impact in the competitive Australian mid-sized segment.”

There a mistake, Autrialan Sonata is called i45 and not ix45 as you name it 2-3 times in your article.
ix45 will be the next Santa Fe.

Why is i45?
Hyundai Australia made mistake.
ix45 should be a sonata based SUV name.
(SantaFe ?)
i*5 = SUV (eg. ix35, ix55 = SUV)
i*0 = non-suv (eg. i10, i20, i30 = non-suv)

Hmmm not so sure about what you said (@Sorento Owner) but perhaps I’m wrong. Anyway shouldn’t it be:
-iXn° SUV name
-in° normal car name?

Name of i-series should be like this…
i30 = (Europe version) elantra based car
ix35 = (Europe version) Tucson
i40 = (Europe version) sonata based car
ix45 = (Europe version) SantaFe
i50 = (Europe version) Azera based car
ix55 = (Europe version) Verzcruz
If Australia Hyundai calling sonata as i45. it is very confusing name with ix45. i45? ix45?… hmmm.

I guess they’re doing this because the i45 and the Sonata are the same car, while the I40 will be a smaller version of the same car available in the EU. But might be confusing sure enough.

Speaking about i45, have any of you guys seen the reviews? Autoblog says Sonata Slaughters Camry, Fusion, Accord, and others say Sonata teaches the Luxury Companies like BMW and Benz a thing or 2.
Some journalists say you’re a idiot if you buy anything else. Most people compare it to Lexus ES350.

Thanks Stef, I corrected the name to Hyundai i45!
Its great to see positive reviews of new Sonata sedan from automotive media who used to criticize Hyundai for the past couple of years.
Hyundai must have made a real competitor!

What makes you say European i40 will be smaller than US Sonata? Like ‘Sorento Owner’ I fail to understand why Aus will be naming it i45 when across Europe the same vehicle would be i40 if it follows all otehr nomenclature. The 5 endings are used only on crossover/SUV type vehicles.

You have to remember i-Flow=Next Gen i40. They have i20, i30, etc… in Europe and many other places. However there are still people who love Hyundais American products, thats why I think they will go by 5s for the American products.
Sonata will be i45 guys.
The question is, if Europe gets American Hyundais, will we get Euro Ones?

The i20 MPV is supposed to be called 1×20. So that leaves a space for an SX4 like baby crossover/Hatch for Accent, which could be called ix25 in different markets?
