2010 Hyundai Tucson sales soar 120 percent in January
Hyundai reports a 24 percent increase in January 2010 sales. New Tucson sales rev up!
Korean largest carmaker Hyundai Motor reported its US sales soared 24 percent last month, as Japanese rival Toyota grappled with a massive gas pedal recall. According to Hyundai Motor America, total sales for January 2010 stood at 30.503 vehicles as against 24.512 units in January 2009.
The all-new 2010 Hyundai Tucson, which went on sale during the first days of January, has seen an overwhelming consumer response and recorded an incredible 128 percent sales increase, while Hyundai’s sub-compact Accent and Elantra sedan sales increased 61 and 133 percent, respectively.
The top-selling Hyundai model in January was Elantra compact sedan with sales of 7.605 units. It ended the month slightly ahead of the 2010 Santa Fe, which sales soared 43 percent from January last year.
Sonata’s sales slipped 37 percent due to model change. Many consumers are believed to have their purchase delayed until new Sonata hits the showroom floor.
The all-new Hyundai Tucson and 2011 Sonata sedan are starting a wave of new model launches which will bring seven new Hyundai models to the market over a period of 24 months. You can expect to see many exciting Hyundai cars hitting the streets during the so-called “24/7 version 2.0″ product blitz, including a completely redesigned Elantra compact sedan, Veloster coupe and slightly updated Genesis sedan.
January 2010 Hyundai sales – official press release from Hyundai Motor America:
Hyundai Motor America today announced January sales of 30.503 units, up 24 percent versus January 2009. This marks the thirteenth consecutive month of year-over-year retail market share gains for Hyundai and our best retail share performance since the government’s “Cash-for-Clunkers” program.
“While we were surprised and disappointed in the overall weakness of the industry in January, we are encouraged by our strong performance at both ends of the market spectrum” said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America’s vice president of national sales.
“In addition, we are exceptionally well poised for the first quarter of 2010. The completely redesigned 2010 Tucson crossover hit dealer lots in January and recorded a 128 percent sales increase in its first month. At the same time, we are launching the “game-changing” Sonata sedan to expand our product range!
Both Hyundai vehicles deliver striking styling and an unprecedented combination of performance, quality and fuel economy at a very affordable price. We fully expect both vehicles to significantly bolster our sales momentum throughout the year. [Source: Hyundai Motor America]

I had just bought a 2010 Tucson 2 weeks ago but have not taken delivery due to a recall on the passenger airbag light sensor or something like that? Dealer is not giving me too much info. Says they are waiting for the NTSB to release the fix so dealers can start moving cars again. Has anyone heard of this or am I getting hosed?

Not even Toyota has gone a year without recalls, and if I remember Hyundai has 3 such years.

Im sorry I was incorrect with that 3 year thing, retroactive recalls broke those streaks. Like last year for example, that retroactive recall on the Azera we had a couple of weeks ago added Hyundai’s only recall for 2009.

understood that there are no published recalls, maybe its a servicve bulletin, but I cannot get my Tucson delivered until the NTSB releases the “fix” that Hyundai has proposed. Thats what my dealer is telling me.
With Washington out of order over the last week + due to snow and obviously NTSB is probably in the shorts of Toyota and putting other issues on the back burner. I’ve taken my ? to Hyundai Corporate Customer Service to find the real answer.

I bought mine on Feb. 13, and drove home in it that day. I’ve been back to have my lojack installed and nothing has been said about a recall or any other problem. I bought the Limited in black. I love it! Hope you get yours soon.

I was driving my new loaded Diamond Silver 2010 Tucson Limited and I passed a brand new Mercedes GLK –Class SUV on the freeway and he sped up to check out my ride, he just kept looking and looking. I turn around smiled, thinking what a fool, my car looks better, I’m getting better MPG’s and I paid about half the price. If you know anything about cars you have to like the looks and you can’t beat the warranty. Watch out Hyundai’s coming up big time…
