Today, we are bringing you the very-first camo-free interior shots of the all-new 2011 Hyundai Elantra. The prototype model of Hyundai’s forth-coming compact sedan has been spotted by one of the Hyundai enthusiasts in Korea and posted at one of the car fan boards.
A fully uncovered Elantra interior reveals a completely redesigned dashboard that takes its design cues from new Hyundai Tucson and 2011 Sonata sedan. It takes the instrument cluster design from Tucson crossover and steering-wheel design from new Sonata, while centre console is a mixture of both. Overall, the two-tone interior with faux silver inserts looks nice and modern.
Engine choices expected to be available in the all-new 2011 Hyundai Elantra include entry-level 1.6L four-cylinder engine with gasoline direct injection technology and more potent 2.0L Theta engine. Some sources also suggest Hyundai will introduce a high-mileage hybrid-electric powertrain for its new compact sedan offering.
As for now, we do not have any information on the official unveiling of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra, but the model is expected to appear at one of the U.S. auto shows in the second half of next year; possibly at the 2010 L.A. auto show.

dont like the center console.. looks too robotic to me.. a more modern/organic design would have been nicer imo.. oh well

I noticed the glove box opening has a gloss shiny finish, hopefully that doesnt make it to production, maybe a preproduction part?

These pictures are all pre-production; meaning its lacking all the soft touch materials and high quality finished on the consoles layouts.

Hey if it looks nice in drab gray, its a good sign I think. Hyundai interiors look best in all Black with sliver and chrome trimmings.
yagz, but Robotic will be the new Modern. Im 28 it looks very modern to me dude. Remember, in cars like the Accent (Males) and Elantra (Females) its guys my age who will mostly buy the things, eventually leading to future guaranteed Sonata, Azera, Genesis, etc.. purchases. I know whe I finally get my first big time job that pays more than what most jobs pay college educated folks my age, a Genesis or Azera might end up sharing my driveway with Accent.
The Accent and Elantra should share the same upscale family look, with every bit of that KIA youthfulness. Like Tuscon does.
The Elantra will get a small Crossover as well, and I think that Crossover will be HED-5 concept, of course more stylistically cleaned up however. I know the Elantra might get a coupe as well. The Smaller Accent Sized Veloster and an Elantra coupe might cannibalize each others sales.
1. That’s why the Genesis Coupe needs a V8, and a the 3.6 needs to be a GDI.
2. Let the Elantra Coupe get a 2.0 T and 2.4 T

Robert, The first Lexus cars were glorified Toyota, and then 10 years after that they copied off the Germans. Its only been the last 5 years Lexus has had its own style.
At Least Hyundai isnt trying to take KIAs and stuff them full of leather, etc… I think is very brave and admirable of Hyundai, for not changing the company name, or the names of its models to please skeptics that have a problem with buying a upmarket car wth the name “Hyundai or Accent” on it.

This must be a low spec trim as it has a 4 speed tranny, Cloth Seats, no push button start. Look at the stick. Like a 1.6 “Blue Model”

I think the interior looks postitively terrible.
I was expecting something much nicer and upscale looking going by what Hyundai has done with the new Sonata and Tucson. This looks tacky and cheap, like something Scion would put in their kid cars or something out of a Chinese vehicle.
That expanse of silver plastic around the radio stretching down to the gear selector looks cheap and gaudy, the radio itself looks budget, and the HVAC controls look like something that belongs on a Fisher Price toy.
I had such high hopes and this is a huge disappointment.

LOL it has nothing to do with age. I am basically the same age as you and I drive an elantra. I just think this whole robo look is a dumb trend. Ive seen it in quite a few cars. I am glad it appeals to you but I personaly dont know anyone that favors that style… I did not like the tucson console either.

How can you tell how many speeds it has? It’s got SHIFTTRONIC.
Overall, it looks pretty good to me, though I do wonder how well that plastic strip down the dash will hold up; same with that pocket on the side of the console. I fail to see anything at all that looks budget or cheap about the radio or HVAC controls.

Mitch the average age of a Scion owner is over 40. I dont see many young people driving Scions. Scions are overpriced KIAs. Most of us young people are smart enough to say, well If I want a KIA Ill get a KIA at a fair price. Pretty much us young people arent figuratvely nor literally buying into the idea of Scion.
Humm Maybe thats why Toyota will axe the Scion brand if things dont change within the next 2-3 years.
Derrick I agree wth you on the controls. If anything they look European. This looks more upscale than a base model i20 or i30, and most of the details in this interior will go on the next Gen i30 anyway. We havent seen a top spec model in any of these pics yet, and we also dont even know if this is still not a pre production interior either. Lets give it a chance.

I’m sure it is partly to do with the photo angle, but those look like 13″ wheels. Not going to cut it if they are 14 or 15″. Looking for a classy set of 16 or 17’s to fill the wheel well nicely. Can completely alter the look of this vehicle.
I’m not particularly head-over-heels for this interior personally. Would like to have seen an interior similar to the new Sonata. The Sonata’s new interior is EASILY best-in-class if you ask me. Designers for this ‘rotobotic’ look, or whatever you want to call it, looked to be trying too hard. Still, I bet it is going to drive exceptionally well and would expect phenominal fuel efficiency. It should do relatively well.

Interior has hints of the 2011 Ford Fiesta interior (both along that ‘robotic/alien’ look) but should be a crowd pleaser among the younger demographic.

Alex they dont put 13s on any cars sold in the US anymore. At the least these are 15s, and 15s just look like 13s on a car this large. The smallest wheels you can get on any new car are 14s, and 14s are usually reserved for smaller Accent sized cars.

This car is barely larger than the Current Gen Elantra, and the Current gen Elantra is the largest car in its class by far. The Current gen Elantra by government size classification is a D-segment mid sized car, but in terms of everything else its a C-Segment car. Its barely smaller than a Ford Fusion, and the difference is hard to tell wih the naked eye.
Alex the top of the line SE Model will probably have 19s as standard. Like I said this looks like a Blue or Basic GLS model wthout any options. Even at this basic trim, this still by FAR looks better than the spyshots of competitive C-Segment interiors.
The gauges have a screen/needle mix like the Sonata, we havent even seen them lit up. I guess the whole point of the inside guys allowing us to have these shots, was to say “well if you like it in this form, youll be stunned by the best trims of this model.”

I also could swear John Krafcik staed that the “Blue” moniker in small cars like Accent and Elantra was a committment to Hyundais economy roots while still being able to go further upmarket. Accent and Elantra will have downmarket Trims and upmarket trims.
I think if Hyundai wants to be seen as an upmarket company an Elantra done like this as a “Blue” model would be perfect. Have you seen the Current Accent an Elantra Blue Models. The interiors are bare bomes, they are horrid things to live with everyday. They dont even have a CD Player. That does look bad on Hyundai’s upmarket goals. They needed better looking “Blue” models, and I think this Elantra in the shots is it.

He Knows what he’s doing as he designed New Chevy Equinox, New Chevy Malibu, G6, and All New GMC Terrain. G6 extended Pontiac’s lineup for 4 years longer than what it would have. That was their bread and butter car. Maybe this guy wants to be super famous, but he didnt see that kind of advancement for is future at GM. Maybe he saw a chance for fame at Hyundai. Phill and his Partner Andre’ (the Nuvis Designer) are the future of Hyundai design. They will take us were we need to be.
Lets be real, those are some great GM Products, but Zak is making our products look better.

I can see the shifter, but there’s a gate to the right of drive for “Shiftronic” manumatic operation. So how can you tell from that how many speeds it has?
Also, lots of other sites are complaining the vents are too low. That was a common complaint of the ‘06-’09 NF and I say from experience it’s a valid one. The vents need to be moved up into the silver area beside the radio.

You got a pont Derrick, but whats so secretive about it to keep the gears covered up. Either that, or the company uses the same shift bezel throughout the Elantras whether or not it has a shiftronic tranny fo a cost savings thing.

Gee John, If you are old here at 38 I must be ancient! I won’t even mention it here ..actually I’m only about 4 four years older…. but I agree with you that the interior looks good. And that the metal sections on each side of the radio here should have been the vents. Or they could have widened the radio. This looks a little SciFi/Alien to me… and I dont mean futuristic… That would be the Sonata. This is just B-rated SciFi… sorry… Unless theu have a valid reason for a tiny radio. This is definately not “tuner friendly”. I also couldn’t help but notice the…I think… “map slots” on each side of the console? Great idea but I think they are a little too thin to be really useful. But I like that they finally added shiftronic to the Elantra line. I have been saying something about this since I started writing on this blog in 2007. After seeing the video on Hyundai Think Tank for an all new Nav system on the 2010 model… I’m sure this model will eventually carry it too. Looking at the steering wheel, it looks like they have included cruise controls and radio controls here. That, or they figured out how to lauch missiles while driving.

EB I thought about that, but after investigation I realize that the whole middle console can pop out. Ill explain,
All of those buttons where the radio are at, as well as the radio face itself is a weird triangular unit (That new radios shaped like the grille Hyundai Concept-Tuscon radio face is shaped like the hexagon). You can pop the radio out, and put the new radio/DVD system in with all of its cntrols, and then put a (special for Elantra only-probably will even be able to purchase at Best Buy) diaphragm to close the gap that a rectangular or square radio would leave.
Not a big deal really, it just requires an aftermarket solution.

However, with a CD Player like that. I sure wouldnt change my radio unless I had to (by that time the trianglar diaphrgam will be very widely available).
Or id get a NAV/DVD player, or Id order the NAV Option-stock.

My point is that they were originally designed to appeal to a younger generation, not who is actually driving them.
I really did have high hopes for the upcoming Elantra, but if it is released to market with an interior that looks anything like this it will immediately be crossed off my list.
Guess I’ll have to wait for the 9th generation Civic or the upcoming FMC Focus.

Mitch, Have you seen the Civic plans? Its ghastly. Yes, its that horrible. I think the Elantra will be much better than these pics befitting the “upmarket” genre, dont worry man. The Auto Shows I know Coming Up: Detroit-Jan, Chicago-Feb, Brussels-March, New York-April.
The Elantra is the next batter up on the 24/7 2.0 plan, so I think better shots are coming. KIA is showing Cadenza in Detroit, I think Elantra Will be shown in Chicago or NYC.

I have been studying the pics, and that interior is Dark Gray Leatherette/ Very light gray Cloth. Its just so dammed gray that the stitching is obscured.
I wish Hyundai would do a Black, Chrome/Silver, and Taupe Interior. However, Id take a Black and Chrome/Silver Interior though. Im not a fan of dark on light interior, I like Dark on Dark.
