2011 Hyundai Sonata
2011 Hyundai Sonata makes its official Korean premiere!
The long-anticipated 2011 Hyundai Sonata makes its official Korean premiere today, in front of more than 200 invited VIPs, company executives and media members.
The all-new 2011 Sonata sedan incorporates Hyundai’s latest design language called “fluidic sculpture” is expected to shake up the world’s mid-size sedan market with its state-of-the-art technologies, outstanding performance and segment-leading fuel-efficiency and safety features.
At the official launching ceremony, which took place in Seoul, Hyundai’s Vice Chairman, Euisun Chung noted that the all-new, 2011 Sonata sedan is going to raise Hyundai’s brand values and set new standards for world class mid-size sedans.
Development of the sixth generation Sonata sedan took Hyundai engineers and designers 4 years and $372 million to develop. Designed at Hyundai’s Korean design headquarters, the 2011 Sonata incorporates nature inspired exterior design aesthetic of “fluidic sculpture” and boasts younger and sensuous image in its exterior and interior.
Available in nine exterior colors, the 2011 Hyundai Sonata features outer design which exudes a voluminous look that creates character through the refined and harmonized lines, while interior incorporates a dynamic look that matches the exterior while not compromising comfort or convenience.
Initially, the all-new Sonata will be powered by a 2.0L Theta II gasoline engine with maximum output of 165 horsepower and 202 Nm of torque. According to Hyundai, the engine achieves 12.8 kilometers per liter (7.8L/100km or 30.1 mpg ), which is the best fuel-economy rating in its segment and more than 11 percent improvement over a smilar engine running in the current generation Sonata sedan.
Early next year, Hyundai will also introduce a 2.4L gasoline engine equipped with gasoline direct injection -GDI technology and 200 horsepower. When Sonata reaches US shores, sometime in the first quarter of 2010, it will also be available with a V6 power ( 2.4L engine will be offered as a standard engine in the U.S. market).
Europe, on the other hand, will also get two frugal diesel engines (2.0L and 2.2L R-diesel engines) with power outputs ranging from 150 to 200 horsepower. According to Hyundai, all engines available in the 2011 Sonata are offered with the all-new six-speed automatic transmission!
The all-new Sonata sedan features vastly improved safety and convenience features that will attract and satisfy new as well as current Sonata customers. It comes available with Vehicle Dynamic Control, Rear Heated Seats, Amplitude Selective Dampers, Electronic Parking Brake, Hill-start Assist Control, Brake Assist System and panoramic sunroof!
It also comes equipped with Parking Guide System (PGS), JBL Premium Sound system and newly applied, Mozen Premium Wide Navigation system. Mozen system is a telematics service that operates in Korean market since 2003 and links the vehicle’s electronic control systems to a monitoring center.
The center checks various components for errors, informs the driver of the analysis, and provides directions to nearby service centers.
The Korean largest carmaker revealed it aims to sell 60.000 units of the all-new Hyundai Sonata sedan in its home, Korean market by the end of this year, while next year, Hyundai plans to double that number.
Hyundai will continue to produce Sonata at both of its overseas manufacturing plants, located in Alabama, US and China. Production of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata for the US market will begin early next year, while production in China will commence in the beginning of 2011. From that year, combined Korean and overseas production of new Sonata is expected to reach 450.000 units annually!
Pricing for the US-market Sonata will be revealed closer to its official US debut, scheduled for NAIAS 2010. In Korea, Sonata will be priced from 21.3 million Won (US$17.600) for a base 2.0L model and top out at 25.95 million Won (US$21,450) for a fully-loaded 2.0L model.

You do know what WoW means right? Anyways, the live shots make the front look much better and it deserves a sigh of relief on my part.

I live in Korea and just came back from a dealership here. Test-drive vehicles will be available starting next week, so I’ll have a full report then.
Today, they just had a brochure and price guide. Prices range from 19.6 million won (base model, no additional options) to 29.3 million won (Sports model with all available options).
There are, if you can believe it, NINE different trim levels. Officially the car is known in Korea as the Hyundai Sonata Y20.
The base model (19.6 million) is the Grand edition.
Next up is the Prime edition, available in two trims: Deluxe (23.15 million) and Super Deluxe (24.7 million).
Next up is the Premier edition, available in two trims: Deluxe (24.9 million) and Super Deluxe (25.8 million).
Between the Prime and Premier editions, there is something called the Premier Beige edition for 25.3 million.
Next up is the Top edition, available in two trims: Deluxe (25.95 million) and Super Deluxe (27.85 million).
Next up is the Sports model, available in only one trim (28.2 million).
Available options include:
Electronic Toll-road collection system for 250,000 won
A 3-piece panoramic sunroof for 1.15 million won
Intelligent DMB [look it up on wikipedia] 6.5-inch touch-screen navigation for between 850,000 won and 1.6 million depending on model)
A 6-speed automatic transmission (includes foot-operated parking break, Eco-driving monitoring system, and rear-seat center console air vents) for 1.7 million won
Premium 8-inch wide-screen touch-screen navigation (includes JBL premium sound, voice activation, rear-view camera, and rear parking guide) for 2.0 million won
All navigation systems include real-time traffic information and the ability to play external video files (for example from a USB memory stick).
The salesperson told me that if I ordered today, I’d have my car in about 45 days. He said that over 20,000 units had been pre-ordered in the past two weeks.
Sadly, a manual transmission (6-speed) is only available on the base model. All other models come with a 6-speed automatic. Only the top-of-the-line Sports model comes with paddle shifters.
There are three tire sizes available (all with aluminum wheels): P205/65 R16, P215/55 R17, P225/45 R18.
Premier editions and up come with rear heated seats. That’s something that I’ve never seen before on a car of this class.
The car is available in nine different colors, which is A LOT by Korean standards. Available colors are: Bright White, White Crystal, Slick Silver, Hyper Metalic, Dark Grey, Espresso, Remington Red, Blue Black, and Black Diamond.
Want to know anything else? Just let me know.
As I said, I have scheduled a test-drive for next Thursday, so I’ll have photos and first-hand driving impressions then.

This 4dr Sonata Coupe is a slick, sleek, kickass design! I’m going to go as far as saying this could be the Next North American Car of the Year!
September 17th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
Drop Dead Gorgeous, the MAZDA 6 looks blah in comparison!
September 17th, 2009 at 2:17 pm
awesome!!!!!!!!!
September 17th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
Overall, looks nice. Might have to see the grille in person to decide about it. Hope all the goodies make it to the US.
But does anyone know why it was a week late?
September 17th, 2009 at 4:54 pm
exterior - I’ll reserve my opinion until I see it in person since I often find cars better looking in person. But from the picture alone, I’m not a big fan of that huge bling-bling grille.
interior - (I saw it on Autoblog) holy cow… it’s stunning. It puts the current Sonata’s interior to shame.
Now if only Hyundai offers this car in manual at all trim levels… PLEASE GIVE ME A MANUAL OPTION! I hate slush boxes.
September 17th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
In Korea, base Sonata is available with 6speed manual tranny, so its possible that Hyundai will introduce it in the US as well. Naturally, manual will be available in Europe.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Interior = Stunning (Hyundai is finally addressing the quality materials issue)
Exterior = So far…okay. I’ll have to see it in person to have my final judgement.
These tings look completely different from pictures.
September 17th, 2009 at 8:43 pm
I cant wait to see it in person + see the hybrid version and the station wagon/portico version … will be very interesting year!!!
I agree with “SKC” … Manual should be offered. without manual ( not only on the base model please…on the “sport” model it should be mandatory to be called “sport”).

September 17th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
This make the Sebring look like a joke, and the Buick LaCrosse overpriced, underpowered and gas guzzling.
September 17th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
WOW…this is a beaut…looks real good. Accord, Camry, and even the fairly good looking mazda 6 look out.
September 17th, 2009 at 10:09 pm
Looks great…but is the middle part of the grill pushed in or out?
September 17th, 2009 at 10:35 pm
Wow… much better than I expected! A Great B-Day present! Thanks Hyundai!
September 17th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
NONE of the models will have the dual exhaust exposed? Does anyone know?
All pics I’ve seen have the exhaust pipes hidden leaving it looking less sporty.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
What does the V20 on the back eman I wonder? Hyundai is working out a few things as a lux make I see.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:22 pm
It’s Y20 and I’m sure it’s from YF and 2.0L.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Thanks Derrick.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
When are you guys going to an Article about the ix-Metro?
It looks better in real life than the drawings, and I think thats the Styling Direction Hyundai should go for the Next Gen Accent, maybe with a Grille change to get people warm to it.
The Body on that thing is a work of art.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
You’re welcome.
Not as big a deal, but photos of the ‘10 Elantra’s new grille for the US can be in the Media Kits section of the www.hyundainews.com site.
September 17th, 2009 at 11:57 pm
It also looks bigger than a sub B-Segment car too. Its very big looking actually. Those Euro Models are about 6ft tall standing next to it, and its swallows them. nearly.

Well Derrick, you know Iam a small car and truck fan man. I love the B Segment cars, and trucks.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:03 am
Its Pretty Tame Derrick, I guess they didnt want to do anything to the Elantra Grille to rock any boats.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:05 am
With as much as I drive and love to drive, I need B-Segment fuel economy. Plus, the New B-Segs have plenty of space inside, well except for the MINI and Yaris.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:26 am
Think about it, this aint 1979 anymore. Its not just good enough to have a small B-Segment car with a good interior for the money, a good ride for the money, great MPG, and superb reliablity.
The car has to have pannache’.
The Mini has Pannache’
The Yaris has that, “Oh its a cute Me Too car” look.
The Fit has that Yaris look
The SX4 has that rally car look.
The Versa has that “Im a sophisticated 30 something professional and I want a small car that sips fuel look.”
Our Products:
The Accent has that “Well we wanted to design a great car but we got lazy at the last minute look. So we designed a small car with lots of potential that most people wont tap into.”
The Rio looks Horrid, and cheap. Like it should be a $7500 car.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Anyway, back to the Sonata a great car, and those who buy D-segments will be stupid if they dont consider one.
September 18th, 2009 at 12:57 am
I agree with JG…having no exhausts showing shouldn’t stop people from buying this car, but come on we all know we’d love to see dual or atleast a chorme plated exhaust
September 18th, 2009 at 12:59 am
Anybody think this is a Camry copy? Apparently Jalopnik thinks so, but most of their Hyundai posts are biased. In my opinion, this is very different than the Camry. It only reminds me of it due to the grill grabbing my attention. Its outline is similar to the Camry’s but this is a fairly generic shaped grill. The taillights and headlights on the Camry is rectangular whereas the Sonata’s are triangular. I think people think this is a Camry lookalike because they have a preconception that Hyundai ALWAYS copies, and they had no choice to bring up the car that most resembles this car and call it a copy. What do you guys think? Is this car sufficiently different than the Camry? And if you think it is a copy, why do you think so?
September 18th, 2009 at 1:46 am
People actually say this is a Lexus ES Copy in most places, but a good one.
September 18th, 2009 at 5:24 am
Wow! Nice job HMC. I am truly impressed~ Kudos to the entire staff but honorable mention to the interior design team - that cabin is simply outstanding..
September 19th, 2009 at 3:38 am
OK, I just read the lead in of a Wards article that hinted that the European i40 won’t have this body. I don’t subscribe, so couldn’t read it all. Does seem this would be hard to make into the rumored wagon. Anyone else have any info?
September 19th, 2009 at 9:38 am
I just saw that, too. Interesting…
September 19th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I agree with some of the posters above: I really hope that the manual transmission is available in the US models. Otherwise it would be such a waste (in my mind :). my car hits 10 years next year and I am looking to replace it with a 6 speed sedan. If hyundai disappoints with offering no m/t, I’ll get the ford fusion se with 6 spped m/t insead…
September 19th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
I have been saying what a killer-design this car is since the first spy shot, sneak peeks appeared. Apparently, this car is much more of a sensation than I originally thought it would be.
It’s not that I didn’t expect the car to be good, its more than that, this car supplants all other cars that sits in this category and moves the bar not just up but challenges the notion that a premium brand has to be out of reach of the average middle class American car buyer.
Based on the frenzied, and mostly positive reaction to the upcoming 2011 Sonata all across the automotive and non-automotive web communities that I have been cruising through, I can say without even the slightest equivocation, that Hyundai has not only got their “A” game on, but their game face as well. It should be obvious to everyone that they are bringing it head on to the likes of Honda and Toyota.
They are challenging the convention that upscale, premium, designed cars, have to be highly overpriced in order to achieve the prized quality quotient. And remember, Hyundai is moving their brand up without having to spend the billions to launch a costly, risky luxury brand.
In no small measure, Hyundai has been progressively shifting their brand perception upwards and with the recent success of the Genesis, multiple quality and automotive awards, this has embolden Hyundai to continue pushing their brand further upwards.
I think this strategy which is proving to be a successful formula will apply downward pressure on current entry level luxury models from brands such as Cadillac, Lincoln, Lexus, Infiniti and Acura.
Among the brands just cited above both Lincoln and Acura are the most vulnerable to this downward pressure and market share erosion. Also some non-lux brands like Ford’s Fusion, GM’s Malibu and Nissan Altima’s will lose conquest sales to the upcoming 2011 Sonata.
Though Honda and Toyota remain popular, largely due to their known reputations, both are now in my opinion, vulnerable to the “malaise effect”. The malaise effect occurs when an objective is achieved and there is no direction beyond.
It is a phenomenon that happens to any highly successful individual or company.
Thankfully, Hyundai doesn’t fit that profile. Going forward Hyundais are going to be known for their “killer” designs!
September 19th, 2009 at 11:56 pm
@The Pill -
You hit the nail on the head. Hyundai designs are going to stir it up. The Bangle effects and phenomenon is going to be repeated for sure. The Sonata is stunning, I don’t know how the next generation Sonata would look like, I don’t think someone can better this.
September 20th, 2009 at 3:34 am
Hyundai the company that put Toyota in its place as an Econo car maker. Koreans are not Econo car people unlike the Japanese. Koreans will buy luxury cars and will fill them up gladly even though gas is $8 a gallon over there.
Hyundai does econo cars ok, but I think they will never get it truly. Hyundai as Acura and KIA as Audi goes better than Hyundai as Toyota and KIA as Honda. We’ve always had cars that had econo car prices, but the aspirational luxury look mixed with the econo car look didnt work out so well.
Hyundai’s approach of just building cars with the look of Luxury, but with a price that is close to econo cars works better.
September 20th, 2009 at 3:52 am
Current Accent:
The Accent looks like a car that should have Ovalish Exhaust pipes like a Gen Coupe and chrome and leather and an engine option that has a turbo. It doesnt look like a Fit Competitor. It looks like a rich kid trying to fit in an inner city neighborhood. It should look like its proud to be in a MINI, PT Cruiser, Audi A2, Merc A Class competitve offering.
Current Elantra:
The Current Elantra is an ok looking car, but it can look more elegant inside and out. It has a confused look, it wants to play the part of the Corolla yet it has a look that aspires to be a Lexus IS. It needs a turbo option, and chrome ovalish shaped exhaust like a Gen Coupe.
Current Sonata:
It Looks like it wants to be a Buick, but its just missing that one thing and I cant put my finger on it. I think the Next Gen Sonata has solved that.
Azera:
It holds the Sonata back from growing, and sells like poop. It looks sweet though when chromed up with chrome rims.
September 20th, 2009 at 4:35 am
@Indian Auto Blogs thank you. What an unbelievable path this automaker has begun to carve!
@Hyundai Smoke
Nice analogy of the Hyundai car line up. I got a kick out of your assessment of both the Accent and Elantra. I too was expecting more from the current Elantra when the redesign was revealed 2 years ago and was very disappointed with the final cut.
Though I think that much has changed within Hyundai’s design philosophy and direction. I think they are more focused than ever now to elevate not just their cars but the brand.
I can see it working. We all can. For example, just today I read an article on Consumer Reports’ autoblog site about their impressions of the upcoming 2011 Sonata and they were very tickled about the car. This is a publication that influences millions of readers and has been recommending Hyundais of late in their recent reviews.
Plus in their latest reader surveys, Hyundai again came in as one of the most reliable and therefore, well recommended brands.
No doubt this is kicking some die-hard ‘yota and Honda fans’ worlds upside-inside out, who are bristling and cutting their teeth on an undeniable reality that they are yet to comprehend, but can’t conceive that their perfect, imperfect world of brand “domination” is being reshaped right before their eyes!
September 20th, 2009 at 8:38 am
The Pill, You know what man? They hate us hard online the Toyota and Honda product fans. Acura Drivers are curious about our products now. I wonder why?
The GM guys and gals are very Jealous of us.
VW/Audi guys are curious about our cars too. I think they see us as Friendly competition. Since we sell them our computers which are more reliabel than theirs now, they have no choise to see us that way either.
Ford/Lincoln/Mercury is trying to copy our tranformation.
September 20th, 2009 at 8:39 am
We piss the Lexus guys off hard. We say Genesis they say Excel. That sums up the hate.
September 20th, 2009 at 8:41 am
You see the new Lexus commercial where the car had a whole bunch of dollar signs pasted to it. I dont know about you, but I believe that car is shaped like an Azera.

@ The Pill - you’re welcome. As an Indian hailing from Chennai (where the i10 and i20 are exclusively made), I can say I have a lot understanding and sense of Hyundai models. What I want to see is the next generation Elantra and Accent (known here as Verna) taking the i40 route — become sleeker and slippery. At present, the Verna looks nothing like the outgoing Sonata and the Tucson and Santa Fe have a lot of differences. But look at the successful brands - Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The line that separates models is thinning and blurring - the A4 looks close to the A6, the new E-Class is close to the C and the BMW 5 and 3 use a similar design approach. This is what Hyundai should also do. Let them start with the i40 as a foundation and build the rest of the models like it. The family DNA needs to be constant across the range.
September 21st, 2009 at 1:22 am
IAB,
I think the Sonata look can occur with the Sedans and the SUVs-Tuscon and Veracruz can have the Nuvis look. Have the Hatches, Wagons, and CUVs have the Tuscon look. Im talking grilles here and not the bodies.
September 21st, 2009 at 2:33 am
This is going to be a little bit of a repeat once my comment with links in it is approved, but I just have to say it again: can’t wait to see how Toyota and Honda respond and how they’ll possibly do it without being accused of copying Hyundai. This car will beat Accord and Camry in both power and fuel economy in both Four and V6 versions in the US. Plus it’s something neither the CLS or CC are: a true family vehicle with a real 3-person rear seat with true headroom. I say make the tagline here for it: Hardly ONLY as good as a Toyota Camry.
September 21st, 2009 at 10:27 am
Here is an interesting tidbit: This video shows several sketches/renders of the Sonata. On the vid, skip over to the 2:05 where Hyundai Design Manager Andre Hudson talks about the design direction of the YF. It shows possible designs that were on the drawing board. They had a clear idea of the overall shape. However, they seem to have had a difficult time on the grille. There is a small pic of the YF bearing an ix-onic look, which is interesting. Also, they seem to have played around with the c-pillar shape. Enjoy ;D

I just recently bought a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Although I was excited about getting my new car, after I purchased and found out that they were redesigning the look I was say the least disappointed. I am extremely happy about my car. I was fortunate enough to be able to get the Limited that came with on 17 miles on it. However, I cannot wait until a couple years down the road and be able to get the newest Sonata that Hyundai has to offer. After buying the Sonata my fiance and I will be Hyundai owners for a very long time.
September 21st, 2009 at 3:40 pm
I remember reading somewhere that Hyundai wanted to shake up the market with the new Sonata like the Ford did with the Taurus in 1985.
As the whole market is now waaaaaaay more mature than it was back then, I’d still say that Hyundai has done an amazing job of at least shaking up the segment!
Full disclosure:
I live in Korea. I drive a Hyundai. I own Hyundai stocks.
September 21st, 2009 at 9:59 pm
@Eric - COngrats on your new Sonata! Hope she’ll serve you well till the YF rolls into your garage
@Hyundai Smoke - yes, true. There are too many models, but what I’m trying to say is the family DNA should be present everywhere.

@Hyundai Smoke - Thank you. Hyundai is working on a 800cc small car (codename : GB) here in India. I’m sure that’s not going to have the lines or the grille of the new Sonata, but I’m also sure you will be knowing more about that model. Don’t you?
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:45 am
The Green Baby will probably be a 2011-2012 Debut for you guys over there.
Did you hear what Chrysler said today, guys?
They are getting out of entry level Luxury. They want to be superior than Cadillac and Benz.
GUESS WHAT??
That leaves a big ass hole for Hyundai to walk right on into.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:25 am
Its Confirmed, the Brazil small will be a Small car plant.
I wonder what Kind of Small Cars. Will be be the B-Segments or the C segments. They might be for export to the US as well.
If that’s the case I wonder what will happen to the Ulsan Accent plant and the Expertise there?
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:27 am
The Korean Wokers striking at the Ulsan Plant really made it bad for the Accent people had waiting lists and then gave up and bought other alternatives. Accent parts were late, etc….. about 2 years ago.
September 23rd, 2009 at 7:30 am
It could be a Veloster plant as well? The time the plant opens is about the time when the Veloster is scheduled for production.
They say the new plant will be able to build 100,000 small cars a year.

Finanz,
I can’t find it now, but I read an article that said there won’t be a Sonata YF wagon. Europe will get the i40 with a different body on the same platform and THAT will include a wagon.
September 25th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
OK, I found the article. It was at Wards Auto and I could only read the lead-in. BUT while there I found this:

It claims that the US YF won’t offer a V6. Says 85% of NF’s had I4’s. They’re going to give up 15% of the market? Anyone with insider information know about this?
September 25th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
That better be a bunch of bs…cuz if its not…hyundai has lost it..
September 25th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
No V6… If this is true, THEY REALLY NEED the manual 6 speed tranny available on ALL futur Sonata models…

Derrick, maybe Hyundai might provide a Turbo that pumps V6 Power, and I4 Fuel Economy for both the Tuscon and Sonata?
September 26th, 2009 at 7:43 am
That’d be a solution. Or maybe Wards is just wrong. Or maybe it’s a ploy to get people into the Azera. I’d imagine with the styling, the car is going to attract a base that is going to be more than 15% V6 intenders.

Hi, is there any review on this new car?
September 26th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Could be?
September 26th, 2009 at 7:57 pm
MK, if you can understand Korean, Hyundaibuzz has someone’s personal video review posted.
September 27th, 2009 at 2:46 am
Hey, maybe the V6 being taken out of Sonata Sedans, is a ploy to get people to buy VGs and Porticos?
September 27th, 2009 at 2:38 pm
Hi Derrick, can’t understand their language but like their big improvement over these years.
September 28th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
Is Huey still going to post pictures and driving impressions?
September 29th, 2009 at 3:17 am
OK, Edmund’s Inside Line’s Straightline blog is now reporting choices will be the GDI 2.4L I4 or a turbo version of the same engine with around 250-260HP. That looks more and more like what Ford will be offering in the near future to meet CAFE standards, so maybe Hyundai’s just going to be in the lead.
September 29th, 2009 at 3:22 am
240-250HP, rather. But that may be low.
September 29th, 2009 at 4:45 am
Personally i think they should stick to what everyone is saying. A 3.5 litre 270 hp v6. Should attract alot more attention.
October 1st, 2009 at 4:05 pm
Derrik G, thanks for the blog posting tip.
195 from the 2.4L? Wow… that’s awesome. I’m a huge fan of Hyundai (previously owned 2000 Sonata and 2005 Tiburon… and my dad previously owned the PONY in Korea before immigrating to Canada… haha) but I currently own a 2008 Honda Accord EX. (long story but I had to help my bro out)… I was impressed with the Accord’s 190HP from the 2.4L, though it’s not as usable since the power comes at 7K+ RPM, but Hyundai is now upping their game!! Hopefully, those horses will be more accessible. Now that Hyundai is opting for I4 for fuel economy, they HAVE to offer manual. Moreover, if they include a turbo DI, not having a manual would be sacrilegious… I feel really fortunate to witness the progress of Hyundai over the last decade or so. Quite exciting.

My full review with photos is up at TTAC…

For the N.A market there will be 2 4 cyl engines. A 2.0l Turbo engine with about 260 h.p. and the new Theta II GDI engine with about 200 h.p. So that is correct, there will not be a V6 engine sold here in N.A. I own a Hyuindai dealership, and this is how I know this.

January 18th, 2010 at 7:16 am
Clean lines,
nice design,
beautiful car, would be nice to see it on streets
January 27th, 2010 at 4:46 am
Does anyone know what the MSRP will be for the 2011 Sonata in the US?
Is it going to be similar to the current price for the 2010 model or they moving the price up?
January 27th, 2010 at 6:57 am
It will be like $19,500-$19,999 to start. Thats about $1500 more than the current model. However, like the Tuscon you would get great options like leather/leatherette for 2Gs more.
Like the Tuscon they would probably charge $1500 for the Auto tranny. A base Tucson with Auto Trans is $21K=the same price as current gen Santa Fe, and 2009 Tucson SE (manual=$19.9 K), but everything is power standard.
The cheapest 2010 Tuscon feels like an Upper Trimmed Outgoing version.
I think Hyundai should take a loss on the rest of the 2009s in stock, becuase that 2010 model blows it out of the water when you have the Cheapest Model of the Newest Version with more equippment than the outgoing version.

When Hyundai puts on the webpage hyundaitucson.com: saing this Tucson is not reprensentative of US models, thats wrong.
Every goodie on those Koren Spec models on the 2010 Tucson page is avalable here too.
That means everything in that Korean Spec Sonata on hyundaisonata.com: will be available in the US as well.
January 31st, 2010 at 1:26 am
Hyundai Sonata pricing has apparently been announced…
January 31st, 2010 at 1:27 am
… and it appears that some of the Korean Spec goodies are NOT available (most notably the panoramic sunroof).
January 31st, 2010 at 4:13 am
That stinks that it is just a regular sunroof. I think I can talk myself out of getting the sunroof option now.
The eco indicator seems pretty useless. I’d rather have something that tells me what kind of MPG I’m getting on the current tank.

Might be the first time dealers do the admu game !!!!
January 31st, 2010 at 10:25 pm
What’s the admu game?

Hyundai has launched the Sonata on it’s website (and not just the “coming soon” microsite — the full “build me” version)!

I’m very curious as to what the ‘Wine’ interior would look like. I’ve been obsessing over this car and cannot wait to get my hands on one!!
February 24th, 2010 at 4:14 pm
Hyundai announced today that it is putting a hold on the sales of the 2011 Sonata after discovering that the front door-lock modules on some units can stick under certain circumstances. The 2011 model of the Sonata went on sales only two weeks ago and there are currently about 5,000 units in U.S. inventory – about 1,300 have been sold said Hyundai spokesman Miles Johnson.
Johnson said it is unclear how many of those have the faulty locks.
