White Hyundai Tucson - live shots
Hope you liked our brief Hyundai Tucson introduction from yesterday, when we showed you some official Tucson pictures and revealed some details regarding vehicles new powertrain options and convenience features.
Official information on the all-new Tucson is still limited to the public, but we are working hard to provide as much info to you as possible and you can count on us it won’t take long until we get our hands on the official Hyundai Tucson press release package with more precise details and loads of official images.
First impressions
Our first impressions of Hyundai’s latest compact crossover are: the all-new Tucson ROCKS!!. Its new exterior design is brilliant and a step forward for the Korean carmaker. In our opinion, this is the very first Hyundai that embodies unique styling that doesn’t borrow any styling elements from other carmakers.
We are especially impressed with Tucson’s interior lay-out, which stands out among the crowds of compact crossovers on the market. It looks beautiful, modern and again, unique. It also seems to be built from quality materials!
Update: Striking Hyundai Tucson crossover has made its official unveiling at the L.A. auto show. For pricing details and other information use our search box located in the top right corner of theblog.
All in all, the all-new Hyundai Tucson looks awesome. It looks especially attractive painted in white body color, which seems to be gaining on popularity as we see more and more white painted cars on the streets these days.

LOOK’S JUST AWESOME ON ROAD! =)
August 26th, 2009 at 3:08 pm
I love this vehicle! It’s soooo coool. Loks like a small Veracruz, but with improved exterior styling. I bet it will be sold out as soon as it goes on sale.
Let’s hope Hyundai introduces a hybrid version soon.
August 26th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
nice.. now when can i buy one here in the US
August 26th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Each revealing shot of the new 2010 Tucson looks better and better. After viewing some detailed exterior and interior pics, I am convinced that this is going to be a home run for Hyundai.
There is no doubt Hyundai has arrived..big time!
August 26th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
I like, but the front looks a bit awkward in pictures. Or is it just me?
August 26th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
It does look a bit strange (front fascia) in the first shot, but I bet it’s a killer when you see it in-person.
August 26th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
I like it…but that interior is going to have to grow on me.
August 27th, 2009 at 12:19 am
John,
What don’t you like about the interior?
August 27th, 2009 at 12:46 am
I agree with Vumiko - the interior will probably have to grow on a few people. It looks like Hyundai decided to go all out on a V-Theme: V-shrouded instruments. V-shaped central instrument panel with the A/C vents, V-Shapes echoed with the seat heaters. There are an Awful lot of shapes going on here. From a functional view: those deeply shrouded instruments may be hard for anyone over about mid-five feet tall to see well. It is yet to be proven but they look to be best read from straight on, not from much more of an angle upward than that. Also: note that the plastic steering column surround is not all that high quality; some of the other plastics look a bit on the cheap side as well. This interior may be more flash than quality substance. The Grille here looks worse in some ways than the cheaper models: the chrome is smooth yet enhances the worst part of the grill (the strange crab’s orifice at the front of this thing). Overall: It may sell fine to a market niche that is looking for flashy “bling style” but I’m not sure the overall appearance is going to move Hyundai upward in market esteem. Some additional restyling and this could be truly world class. Impression: Overdone but Interesting, an A-
August 27th, 2009 at 1:09 am
I guess It was John I agree with on the Interior and Vumiko on the front - they seem overdone. The hexagonal mouth is going to be a take it or leave it item for some consumers. The body of the vehicle is very nice, however. And the back of the vehicle seems to be the strong point.
August 27th, 2009 at 2:45 am
SWEET!!!!
August 27th, 2009 at 4:03 am
Looks even better on the road.. Agressive but not overdone. Fantastic presence
August 27th, 2009 at 4:20 am
Its awesome!
August 27th, 2009 at 4:24 am
I also like the rear end of the vehicle.. Baby got back
August 27th, 2009 at 8:23 am
Admin, I dunno about your comment saying that this is the first original design. I think even the first gen Tucson was very original. Not quite attractive, but original nonetheless. Also, the Genesis Coupe is both original and attractive. Anyways, that is your opinion and this is mine haha.
As for the Tucson, I absolutely love the two tone interior (the one pictured in the link). I wish the brown interior also had a two tone dash instead of a boring black one but the design more than makes up for that. I agree with the guys who said the front looks awkward but I don’t think it is overdone at all. Its just that the fog lamp and the fog lamp surrounds look misplaced. The lines compete with the grille’s lines and that looks terribly wrong.
More detailed pics of both the interior and exterior can be found in this link that The Pill posted in the previous ix post. (Its a great link… have a look!)

Consumer Reports is saying the NA versions will be built in Montgomery. Has anyone heard of such? Does that mean possibly Santa Fe production will moved to the new Kia plant in Georgia?
August 27th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
Holy shit!!!!! that interior looks the same as previous Hyundai Concept. I forgot the name but i definately remember!!! omg…
August 27th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
Looks really great
Was there confirmation on a 5 or 6 speed manual for America/Canada in your researchs?
Please Hyundai Please we need it in this category.
August 27th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
Nope, it won’t be built in America! No news about manual tranny, but it will be available, for sure, and it will be a six speed.
August 28th, 2009 at 1:01 am
Hyundai has got to do something about that logo… I think they’ve out grown it.
August 28th, 2009 at 1:11 am
John… Don’t get hung up on logos… I mean, isn’t “John” kind of bland these days?
No! It’s who you are… Forget the logo… look at the product! This is nice product no matter what the logo is. That’s Hyundai’s point. This is nice! MUCH better than the 2005-2009 model! I personally, think they finally grew up to it.
August 28th, 2009 at 2:41 am
I gotta say right here and right now, I’m very bullish on Hyundai. They have really stacked the deck this time for a perfect flush!
I’m liking the new redesigned Tucson and Sonata. These two models scheduled for launch within a matter of months puts the one-two punch right in the gut of the solar plexus of both Honda and Toyota.
What does the current Accord or Camry have to neutralize against the new Sonata? New body style? efficient and upscale exterior/interior? Greater fuel economy? 6 Spd homegrown autobox? unbeatable industry leading 5yr/100k warranty? Perhaps similarities in tech equipment but able to match available standard equipment list.
Hyundai is now trending up, one of only three automakers in the U.S. who have reported steady growth in an era of anemic economic growth while every other automaker has been sucking tin.
Hyundai’s brand is moving up while other leading makes are standing still.
August 28th, 2009 at 4:34 am
I agree that the logo should be modernized or completely redesigned to reflect Hyundai cars as they are today.
August 28th, 2009 at 4:59 am
@EB
I never had a problem with the product itself. It is very nice, probably one of the best among it’s class. The panoramic sunroof, 6 speed tranny, and other things, some cars in it’s class don’t even have. If you had cared to read the previous posts, you’d have noticed that i had commented on the new tuscon, saying it looked nice. As for the logo…you may like it, but in my opinion, it would be nice to see the logo a little updated. Doesn’t have to be a complete redesign, but like Vumiko said, a bit more modern.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:05 am
This looks like a definate shot at Buick. Younger people would see this as an Alternative to the Enclave, which gets drastically interior MPG.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:05 am
Superior, sorry.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:06 am
Not superior of interior, its inferior.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:08 am
BTW…i see a hint of equus in the side profile.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:16 am
Just scored the coolest commercial on the 2010 Hyundai Tucson. Simply incredible! Follow the link to bliss:
http://www.themotorreport.com.au/40994/2010-hyundai-ix35-makes-korean-tv-commercial-debut/
August 28th, 2009 at 5:42 am
WOAH…after watching i realised, the grill really stands out on the black colour. Looks good.
August 28th, 2009 at 5:58 am
I found that Tucson video when there were only 50 views
It was really unexpected because I searched for Hyundai and sorted by newest and it came up on the top! Anyways, I really am a fan of the design inside and out except that weird chrome on the front. I personally think it would have looked nicer if the chrome traced the whole outside of the hexagon shape and not indent into the middle bar. Well, I’ll have to wait until the US version comes out. About the Hyundai logo, I too think there should be a modest redesign or update just to symbolize a “new” Hyundai. But I do have a suspicion that it may come out very awkward that can only satisfy Korean domestic taste. I myself have no idea what the new logo should look like but if it retains enough of the old while making it more unique, I think this can be a plus for consumers who wish not to associate their new 2011 sonata to a 1999 one. Hyundai’s new vehicles are lightyears ahead of what came out just 5 years ago and I feel like a new logo can convey the message of change who usually can care less about following automotive news. There are still tons of people who don’t know Hyundai has completely changed! Even if these people have no interest in cars, they see logos all the time on the streets and I think it could be an excellent marketing strategy.
August 28th, 2009 at 6:01 am
In regards to the new logo, I too agree that a new logo would be nice and necessary but perhaps now not the time. In reality, it would take literally millions of dollars to put out a new logo and arguably money better spent on R&A and advertising with all of the new products due out..
August 28th, 2009 at 6:36 am
The Pill, excuse my French, but they would be absolutely fu-king stupid to modify that look in any way for the US Marke. Its ready to go today.
Hyundai, please Expedite the release date, you cant sell them sooner here in America?
August 28th, 2009 at 6:43 am
The Tucson IX is for America, becuase for now on we will get the same products that South Korea gets. The modifications will be for Europe only I think.
http://www.hyundaibuzz.com/2009/08/tucson-ixthe-difference-between-domestic-type-and-export-type/
August 28th, 2009 at 7:06 am
I for one don’t want to see the logo modified. I firmly believe U.S. consumers are going to be drawn to both the new redesigned 2010 Tucson and the incredibly redesigned ass-kicking 2011 Sonata 4 door coupe! Many will be attracted to their sharp, upscale, drop dead designs.
The quality and design attributes of these vehicles will catapult Hyundai’s brand cachet, not a new logo. The Genesis’ success has created this influence, but its the bread and butter models that will now push the buzz for Hyundai and right now, Hyundai’s got buzz!
Buzz on!
August 28th, 2009 at 9:52 am
Alex: That is a good point. I forgot to consider the cost of changing logos. Now that I think about it, they would need to put in so much money into all their products and dealerships. Although it isn’t impossible, Mazda changed their logo and am happy they did. But I guess Hyundai passes the savings on to us haha. With such great deals on cars I’m sure they don’t have the spending money like other car companies do. But hey who’s laughing now right?
August 28th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Wow, I wonder how it’d go over if the same ad complete with Britney’s song came to the US. lol.
By the way, did anyone else notice that the ash tray can be removed to pick up another cup holder? Does that mean smoking in Korea is on the decline?
August 28th, 2009 at 1:24 pm

August 28th, 2009 at 5:15 pm
Derrick its already like that in my 2007 Accent. It is probably also the last visible remanant of our relationship with Chrysler, as that is a trademark of Chrsyler vehicles.
This Tuscon and Sonata are fantastic, but I hear the Small car Products especially the Accent will be the Genesis “Halos” on lower end of the pricing ladder. So even better products are coming. Genesis as the Halo car on the top and Accent as the Halo car on the bottom.
Hyundai North America will get a car below the Accent and will get a car above the Genesis as well. Mostl likely Equus and i20.
August 29th, 2009 at 6:52 am
Speaking of the Genesis, the facelift has been spied… looks good so far. Much prefer the rear bumper now. I think the rear bumper has a little cutout or a faux diffusor now. Can’t help but to think of the resale values of the current vehicles tho…
August 29th, 2009 at 9:05 am
I guess they are putting a Hyundai logo on the grille too Pat. A great move if I say so. That will shut the haters up.
August 29th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
@Patrick
A facelift already…hmmm…you would happen to have a link to that picture would you?

August 29th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
Thanks Nick.It seems as though the genesis is getting built in exhausts aswell. As for the front, are they adding a hyundai logo or putting in a camera like the equus?
August 30th, 2009 at 11:44 am
Just wondering, is there a benefit for having built in exhausts or does it look nicer?
August 30th, 2009 at 12:33 pm
This isn’t Tucson related, but here is a new commercial for the new face lifted Santa Fe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ylocn6GSEY It looks like it will have a new grill, new rims, new Tucson-esque fog lights, and a slightly revised tail light, rear bumper and front bumper. This doesn’t look as ’significant’ as Hyundai says though. I like the fog light well, rims, and new lines and edges in the front bumper but the grill is a little iffy. But I’ll reserve my judgment until an official export version is released and see it in person. A lot of times pictures and movies can be a little deceiving.
August 30th, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I’d personally take the older grill over the new one placed on the santa fe. Rims look nice.
August 30th, 2009 at 8:17 pm
The Santa Fe had a messed up grille in the first place, not much worse they can do to it. The Santa Fe Grille represents the last of the “old Hyundai design.”
Hyundai cars looked nice in their own little quirky way, but to get them to look nice in that way especially in the Accent, Interior head room in the rear for 6 footers has been compromised.
August 30th, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Thats exactly why 5 door hatches are better than 3 and 4 door sedans. I hope John Krafcik sees that as he plays around with the Accent SE at home.

Looks really good..oh and i dont know why but the one at the back reminds of the honda accord for some reason.
August 30th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
BTW…is the grill on the white on covered…cuz if that a grill..it’s pretty ugly.
August 30th, 2009 at 11:07 pm
Sorry last thing (wish i had an edit button) The sonata seems to have grown in size..or atleast it looks like it has
August 31st, 2009 at 5:13 am
John the Sonata is filling its slot and replacing the slow selling Azera as well. I think the Azera was a stop gap car in order to get the Sonata ready to grow.
August 31st, 2009 at 6:09 am
Nice pics.. The grill on the white one looks like it is still camouflaged.. First thing that I saw: Lexus ES330.. Here’s the funny thing - I would actually take the Sonata over the Lex.. Why? Because I absolutely can not stand the console on the Lexus - Looks like the ghost from ‘Scary Movie’

The IX-ONIC concept had a double clutch transmission. Not a word yet on the new IX 35 about the DCT.
August 31st, 2009 at 8:29 pm
Last I had heard from Hyundai was that a next gen Azera was in development. HyundaiThinkTank.com members were told this during a chat session.
It’s possible however that things have changed.
August 31st, 2009 at 8:36 pm
BTW guys, check out the new 2011 Sonata pics:

Looks hot!
August 31st, 2009 at 10:47 pm
@ Alex S… LOL! I think your right! It does look like the ghost of Scary Movie… but I do think it was well excecuted! Ff the top was rectangular this would be a really nice dash.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:09 am
Vumiko, it would be a waste of good R&D money that can be utilized elsewhere for a car that sells only 300 a month.
Developing the Next Gen Azera makes as much sense as them Developing a Next Gen Tiburon, or a Next Gen Entourage.
Stick a fork in it that car, the Azera is done.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:45 am
I would think making a next gen entourage that looks nothing like the sedona, with the features the “new” hyundai’s are getting would be good. If they had all that, the new entourage, which there is no, would have nothing to do with the sedona, hence most likely increasing sales.
September 1st, 2009 at 1:46 am
We need a van to give the two japanese superstars, some proper competition, the sedona, just doesnt do it.
September 1st, 2009 at 2:00 am
Hyundai made an average of $56,425,000 off Azeras this year, Accents made an average of $527,306,000. Now Who says the small small cars dont bring in the big profits?
September 1st, 2009 at 2:04 am
LOL…GMC

car revealed in Frankfurt. Looks great except that it does not seem to have usual European goodies such as bi-xenon or LED front lights.

When is Hyundai gonna make a hybrid Tucson? I’d would be willing to trade my 2008 in for one and would have bought one if available. I think Hyundai not having a hybrid has really hurt their sales.
Heard the 2010 Tucson has a bigger 4 with 175 horses, that is a huge improvement and I suspect will move it up in the ratings for small SUV. Will give Honda & Toyota very stiff competition…still like the Tucson with the puny engine better than those other 2, the interiors and ride so much better as well as did not sound or feel like an economy vehicle. (Was so disappointed with Honda…cheap not even privacy glass on their low end model as for the toy, it was fun to drive though even with chintzy interior). Hopefully the new 2010 engine will be fuel efficient. But would like a hybrid!
