Hyundai future: 2010-2011 new model plans revealed. Veloster coming to production
Another image of the 2010 Tucson body shell surfaces to the web. Hyundai plans to introduce i30 based mini MPV in late 2010 along with new Sonata/i40, new i20 mini MPV model and Veloster sports car scheduled for 2011!
The all-new 2011 Hyundai i20 mini MPV will be in a very close relationship with the upcoming Kia YN minivan that made its first public appearance at Geneva auto show earlier this year and received rave reviews from public and automotive media thanks to its really attractive exterior design.
Kia YN mini MPV has been penned by European team of designers under the Peter Schreyer guidance. Peter Schreyer is a famous car designer who worked for Audi for more than 25 years and designed the legendary Audi TT and many other attractive cars, including VW Golf GTI V.
2011 Hyundai i20 mini MPV
Responsible to give the new Hyundai i20 mini MPV a “soul” will be Hyundai designers working at Hyundais European design centre in Russelsheim (Germany). They will be responsible to give the vehicle a unique exterior and interior look to differentiate it from its Kia counterpart as well as make it look attractive when standing side by side with other rivals.
Competition in the European mini MPV car market has been heating up lately. There are several revamped models announced to enter the market within next two years. For example, Opel is going to bring its second generation Opel Meriva, while VW will soon unveil a sub-compact Polo based mini MPV.
Image: 2010 Hyundai Tucson, codenamed LM, body-shell
There is also Ford, who already revealed it will join the battle with Fiesta based mini MPV and Renault with its funky Modus. We should not forget to mention Citroen C3 Picasso, Honda Fit and Nissan Note. So, plenty of competition already and now we have Kia and Hyundai joining the segment.
2010 Hyundai i30 MPV
In addition to the new i20 mini MPV, Hyundai has also announced it plans to launch another MPV model in Europe. The second MPV will be slightly larger than the i20 mini MPV and will be based on Hyundai i30. The i30 MPV will be 4.48m long, 1.80 wide and will measure 1.61m in height. It will compete head to head against established brands such as Renault Scenic, Opel Zafira, Ford C-Max and Toyota Verso. In the mean time, Hyundai will also unveil an i30 facelift.
2010 Hyundai Tucson / ix35
Hyundai will continue a series of debuts with new Tucson, known also as Hyundai ix35 in Europe. The model has been first introduced as an ix-onic crossover concept. We have already seen the body shell of the production ready 2010 Tucson and from the image it was evident that the new Tucson/ix35 will stay very close to the concept.
2011 Hyundai Sonata / i40
Hyundai also plans to roll out the long anticipated Sonata sedan and wagon in Europe sold under the i40 name. First to hit the market will be a wagon variant of i40, while approximately six month later the Korean carmaker will also introduce a sedan variant. The new i40 will replace the current generation Sonata sedan, which wasnt particularly successful in Europe.
The all-new Sonata will feature more modern design and will have a modern interior built from top quality materials. It will also be equipped with the latest powertrain technology including a brand-new six-speed automatic transmission and a range of new diesel and gasoline engines.
According to Hyundai, Sonata/i40 will be the first Hyundai vehicle to be equipped with an updated 2.4L Theta engine that will feature GDI (gasoline direct injection) technology, which will bring the power numbers from 174 hp to 200 horsepower! New Sonata will reach American shores in February 2010.
2011 Hyundai Veloster
Hyundai also plans to take the wraps off another new model. The company has revealed plans to introduce a Veloster two-door coupe to replace the Hyundai Coupe/Tiburon.
Veloster is expected to be a fun-to-drive vehicle with plenty of power coming from new 1.6L Turbo engine that packs an impressive 172 horsepower. In Europe, the model is expected to also receive a diesel power, while North Americans should also get a more powerful 2.0L Turbo engine powered Veloster.

That’s what I wanted to hear, Hyundai-Kia are working hard and they’re doing a great job! Love their car especially Hyundais so keep it going guys!

Impressive engines for the Sonata and Veloster!
June 20th, 2009 at 11:06 pm
I wonder if the i20 MPV will be a portion of the Accent replacement, with the other portions being sedan and 3 door hatch for the US market.
My sources (Including past articles on this website) say Sonata Sedan is supposed to be on US shores in late November of 2009. Where are you getting February from? Will the Wagon come to the US, as I know that is still a maybe?
I hope the Sonata Wagon is the HED-5 Concept.
Will Veloster be called Elantra Coupe, like some sources say it will? Or will it be the Accent 3 Door hatch? There’s mystery around that, somebody should clear it up.

Looking forward to the Veloster!
June 21st, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Good!
June 21st, 2009 at 4:55 pm
They should NOT name the new Tiburon replacement Elantra coupe. Come up with another name all together.
June 21st, 2009 at 9:48 pm
Concept they do plan on having an Elantra Coupe as the Base model of the Elantra. Whats wrong with Elantra Coupe, it has name value. Consumers think the Elantra is Hyundais best car in terms “Percived” quality, when Actually the Accent has the best reliablity history out of all Hyundai cars in the last 15 years. The Azera is shaping out to be a super reliablity machine as well.
In fact, the Accent has the best reliability history out of all Hyundai cars ever. The Sonata and Elantra were tied in second place, with some years the Elantra and Sonata had a couple of problems that some people would deem unacceptable.
Sure the Late 90s Accents had its fair share of Hyundai experimental computer problems, but The Accent grew past it. The Elantra and Sonata still had a few major problems that some people would deem as unacceptable pop up. Even the Current Gen Sonata 2006 model wasnt Hyundais best foot foward, as that car had if I remember 4 recalls.

You know Hyundai-Blog, you could be the unofficial Hyundai site if you worked on:
1. Getting more and different spy shots from all over the world.
2. Providing log of detailed technical specs for all Hyundai Cars, and engines on the market and coming down the pike.
3. Being the leader for Hyundai news all over the world. The place where Magazines, Blogs, and Journals MUST come to get accurate Hyundai Information.
4.You should also allow members to post Hyundai related articles.
5. You should provide a timeline log of Hyundai Models and Future Models.
6. You should provide a Log of Quality Reports from all sources around the world. Then you guys should make an average of those reports and figure out a composite score for not just Hyundai but the other brands, and then rank them.
7. Providing explanations of the rigorous testing procedures on Hyundais.
8. Interviewing Big Wigs like John Krafcik, etc…
9. Providing a Detailed Comparison of Old Hyundai cars to new ones, then Comparing global comparisons to competitive offerings.
10. Doing our own independent research studies on how to improve the brand, and what we can do to compete with the: Audi Small cars, the Lexus mid sized cars, and the BMW big cars.
We must be interactive and it must take all of our efforts as a team here. From staff to posters. Doing this we can not only change perception about our cars, but we can be one of the principal influences on how Hyundai does business. Why not? Most of us own Hyundais anyway, shouldnt we be the drivers of the future?
June 22nd, 2009 at 2:02 am
11. We should also bombard the Popular Blog sites to draw attention to get more members.
12. We should do reliablity expeditions, drive on the worst roads, show Hyundai Modifications, and cover racing circuits.
13. We should stage our own races, even create race and rally circuits for Hyundai/KIA cars. We can turn Accents and Elantras into Premium Rally Cars like SAAB used to do with their small car products. I can see Sonatas, Azeras, and Genesises in Touring car circuits with the best of them.
14, Why not have a Modification contest with a grand prize winner getting something? We should also have a modification log where people dress their cars up through trial and error, so those who come after them will not make the same mistakes.
15. We should have a parts Suggestion, and Retailer log. We could even get into the business of selling parts on this site and E-Bay. We can specialize in parts that Hyundai Dealers do not sell like Blue HID lights, etc… and provide a discount.
16. We should Form Coalitions with other Hyundai sites to provide the most superior product we can provide.
Everything Iam saying is what Lexus/Toyota and Acura/Honda fans used to do in the last 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Unlike them with their prohibitively expensive long distance bills, mail order magazines, we have the advantage of the internet.

We should also set up a donation center where funds can be used for travel and events.
June 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 am
Out of all of the Hyundai sites, I think this is the best of them, and since we are the best we should be the leaders as well.

Smoke that’s the first I’ve heard of the Veloster possibly being named “Elantra Coupe”. I suppose that is a possibility if it will share its platform with the Kia KOUP but honestly don’t believe it will be released under the Elantra label…John K has mentioned that he wants the Veloster to stand out as a unique affordable sports coupe in Hyundai’s lineup….and hinted that they may keep the Tib name.

No. From what I heard … looking in the history books, the Veloster was to replace the current Tiburon and the Sonata wagon was coing to be based off the Genus concept. Admin.. can you clarify this?
June 22nd, 2009 at 7:25 pm
I love the Genus concept. Is Hyundai still planning on producing it? I did notice that the Genus “pentagon” grille doesn’t seem to be on the new Sonata sedan. I thought I heard that’s was Hyundai was going towards? I think the new Tuscon has it…
June 22nd, 2009 at 9:40 pm
What’s all this talk about the new Sonata “arriving on American shores?” They’re made in Alabama. They won’t see the “shores” unless they’re being exported to Puerto Rico.

Iam actually starting to get pissed at Hyundai/KIA for neglecting the US market in terms of Fuel Economy. 35-37 MPG Accents and Rios and 35-36 MPG Elantras and Fortes are not enough anymore. Maybe for 1999, but not 2009.
Krafcik better crack that whip like I think he will, or he will end up on the Unemployment line too.
June 23rd, 2009 at 2:33 am
I love My Accent, but the MPG is getting pretty boring as I see Hyundai/KIAs Euro Powertrains with 10 and 20 more horsepower easily cracking 50 MPG. Thats what really pisses me off.
June 23rd, 2009 at 2:36 am
Dont lose a faithful customer like myself to a $11,000 used Prius Hyundai. Not a smart move.
June 23rd, 2009 at 3:05 am
Smoke, what the hell are you talking about?! The Forte with FE package has both class leading power (out of a 2.0L) and fuel economy. The other models do damn well, too I’d agree with you on the Accent, Rio and Elantra, but those are old designs. I’m sure their replacements will do much better.
June 23rd, 2009 at 5:49 pm
What about the Portico? Will this be coming to US soon? I’d like to see a minivan-like vehicle to replace the Entourage
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:06 pm
Entourage replacement will come in the form of a crossover…no one know when for sure though. Word on the street is they went back to the drawing board with the Portico.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Yeah according to what I have heard:
1. Tucson Very Soon
2. Sonata Late this year
3. Accent mid 2010
4. Elantra late 2010
Those are the big debuts to look out for.
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:44 pm
Anything else will between those times
June 23rd, 2009 at 8:46 pm
I may be a month or 2 off and the same goes for Hyundai, but thats the schedule.
June 23rd, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Oh yeah guys, the “i20 is Significantly smaller than the Accent, but a lot more upscale” as quoted by Car and Driver. They tested it becuase they were curious as to if this would turn out to be the next gen Accent. The i20 is 4 inches shorter than the US 3 door Accent, and 13 inches shorter than the US 4 door model. Considering Americans like big small cars I can see Hyundai doing these something like this:
1. Sell the i20 here as the entry level car, and have the Accent as the big B-segment.
2. Go a larger direction with the Accent.
3. Sell the new i20 MPV based off the KIA No.3 MPV as the US spec Accent.
Krafcik already said that the Accent would be the same size for the Next Gen Model, the i20 MPV is about the same size as the Accent. He also said that for now on US small cars would be bigger than Euro Small cars, be more premium, and be on the same platforms, but look different.

Mike, The Sonatas are typically “assembled” here but the final design and the first cars(prototype) of the series are made in Korea then they send the modified plans and some parts here to be assembled here. When they say arrive here they mean that the original car is still made in Korea and they send the parts here to be assembled.. that’s why there is a “destination charge” on the sticker when you buy a new car. Check the Hyundai website. It’s very informative.

I really like this web site. I hope the new redesigned Hyandai Sonata comes out this year. I am thinking ( save money for down payment) of buying one. It seems to me Hyandai is catching or surpassing Honda in terms of good nice looking cars at an affordable price. I also like the 2009 Honda Civic EX sedan because they redid the front end from 2008. I also think the Kia Forte is going to do very well with the combination of 156 HP in base trim - good mpg - and affordable price - lower than Civic which it competes against - but I am not crazy about looks of car. Anyway I can’t wait to see a picture of Hyandai Sonata (YF) without the camafloge.

Hyundai i20 looks just like a Jazz

Hundai, should now make a survey what type of cars Indians need (because you have built trust),instead of launching of their own design. This is what all forigen companies doing in our country. Its my suggation most of the population is in villages , therefore design a jeep/car of minimum 210mm grnd clearence, five seater, covered or open body may be of only two doors, option of four wheel drive, petrol or disel vertion rate should not exceed Rs5,50,000.00.
