Next generation Hyundai Sonata gets spied
Next generation Hyundai Sonata gets spied in South Korea
When the wraps will fall off the 2010 Hyundai Sonata, many of you will be surprised by its attractive exterior styling. Long ago I told you that the main reason for buying the next generation Sonata will be a desire to drive it and not only its exceptional value.
While Hyundai has done pretty well with the current generation Sonata in the US market, it was far from success in Europe, where competition in the mid-size car segment is known to be much stronger. With the aim to increase its presence in the European mid-size sedan market, Hyundai had to radically improve its Sonata, especially its exterior and interior design.
The first impression is very good and it seems like the makeover has been a complete success. Even with camo, the next generation Sonata sedan looks light years ahead of the current model. It features a four-door coupe like styling with a low slopping roof and a distinctive side character line similar to that of a tuner-friendly, rear-wheel-drive Genesis Coupe.
Update: Hyundai Sonata made its US premiere in Los Angeles last week and goes on sale in the spring 2010. the model has made its debut together with also new Tucson crossover, which is replacing the existing Tucson model after six years on market. The 2010 Tucson goes on sale already this month (December 2009). Source: Hyundai

Nice Kia Forte parked next to it too. can’t wait for BOTH those cars to come out!

Is the kia forte the next elantra?
May 28th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
That’s a great question John. I was wondering that myself. The Kia Blog shows the Forte with a shiftonic 5 speed automatic. Elantra doesn’t even offer that on the Touring!

As far as I know, Kia Forte is based on the same platform as European cee’d and Hyundai i30 hatchbacks/wagons. That’s not the same platform as Elantra sedan, but it is the same as on Elantra Wagon (new Hyundai model in US and Canada).

So admin…im basically guessing that, the new elantra will also be built on this platform

Oh of Course John, and probably using the same powertrains as well.

This car has really been hyped up…let’s just hope hyundai continues to hit home runs and doesn’t dissapoint

As far as the new 2012 Sonata living up to the “hype” is concerned, let’s put it this way, think of it as the “baby Genesis” in an athletic suite.
Game on!

The Pill, this Sonata in these spy shots is not coming in 2012. It is supposed to be on sale in the US in late October early November. It will debut at an Auto Show in June.

Daaang, this is going to be a real looker. Roofline sweet.
My fave aspect? Those rims/wheels that fill the wheel well. Are those 17″/18″ rims with lower profile tires?
Most impressed that HMC is not chintzing out on wheels as they make such a big visual impact. Those wheels on the Genesis Coupe track pack is probably what I would have purchased at Tire Rack had they not come stock!

And Admin, what is the story with there being 3 flavors of the Sonata released? Is that true? Will the the Sonata “wagon” be basically the Genus.. the Hyundai answer to the Toyota Venza?

I really like the car. It really looks good in red. I hope it comes out early next year – hard to wait for this car. Does anybody know the price range – Will it be similar to the 2009 price range for 2009 Hyandai Sonata? Thanks for any information anyone can give.
