Hyundai i20 crash test results
Hyundai i20 wins five stars at EuroNCAP safety rating at the European crash tests. Watch the video of the i20 crash test.
Hyundais latest addition to its European line-up, the i20 scored big in the latest EuroNCAP crash tests. The all-new Hyundai i20 has joined the group of six cars that have been smashed against the wall by EuroNCAP just recently and it was one of five cars that received the highest possible safety rating: 5 stars!
Among six tested vehicles only Suzuki Alto failed to get the five star safety rating while other other five models including Audi Q5, Kia Soul, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Peugeot 3008 all received 5 stars.
The i20 is Hyundais second vehicle that received the five stars at EuroNCAP tests. The first Hyundai vehicle with 5 stars at EuroNCAP crash tests was Hyundai i30. The model received the highest safety rating after its second try, when Hyundai made some safety upgrades to the car. At its first attempt, the i30 got only four stars, which is less than its competition.
Back to the i20 crash test results… The EuroNCAP organization tested the 2009 five-door i20 equipped with driver and co-driver frontal airbags, side head airbags, side body airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners and front seatbelt load limiters.
By frontal impact, the passenger compartment of the i20 hatchback remained stable. In the side barrier test, i20 scored maximum points, while in the side pole impact the vehicle provided an adequate protection. Based on a dummy readings, Hyundai i20 won maximum points for its protection of the 1 year old child in the side and frontal crash tests.
The 2009 Hyundai i20 has been rated at 88 percent for adult protection, 64 percent for pedestrian protection and 83 and 86 protection for child protection and safety assist.
With the new i20, Hyundai has made a major step forward in terms of safety. Previous B-segment car from Hyundai, the Getz has only got four stars at EuroNCAP crash tests, while most of its main rivals already received the 5 star safety ratings.
Maximum number of “safety” stars that a vehicle can achieve at the EuroNCAP crash test is a recognition of Hyundais commitment to providing customers the cars that offer top-class safety and quality.
In addition to Hyundai i20, there were also two other B-segment cars tested. The 2010 Kia Soul and Honda Jazz both received high marks for their safety and that discards the theory that says that small cars dont offer a good enough occupant protection.

Great news for the i20. Admin, when will you post some more updated spy pics of the 2012 Sonata? Saw a more recent pic of it over another site. Man is that car going to be sharp! I think it maybe a mega hit!

The Phill…could you tell us what that site was…or just give a link? plz and thank you

Yes, but how close is this rendering to the actual car? I remember the last photo showing the car with a HUGE grille. This is much more beautiful! Much nicer than the current Camry or Accord, Mazda 6 or Altima!

I’d say this is the closest rendering yet.

Here’s a pre-production model as seen on the street. I think this is much closer to reality.

I think when this makes its U.S. debut the Accord and Camry are going to get ‘old’ real fast. Game Over!!

The Phill…that picture really makes u think…first time i ve seen a rear end…maybe just maybe both the rendering and the pre-pro are the same

cuz if you check…they’re pretty darn close
May 28th, 2009 at 3:26 am
now that i think of it…has a kia vg look to it

Yeah, the rendering looks very close to the sheet metal in the latest link to the spy pic I posted but it’s nice to see it in the “metal” so to speak.
Either way, the Sonata is moving upmarket and I don’t see Toyota or Honda having an answer for this. You know what’s so funny I rented an Accord for a week and I couldn’t wait to get out of it after the week was over. I honestly don’t see it. Why ppl have fooled themselves into believing they need to pay more for a Honda or a Camry.

Mid Size Rankings…
1)New Sonata and 6
2)Accord
3)Camry..and im pretty sure it will always be here…seeing as to how quickly toyota designs get boring…prime example…new corolla

Yeah John, yeah guys. Thats more like it, being more bold about criticizing Toyota. If I can now only get you to realize that Hyundai is now a near luxury Chrysler Nuker make here in the US.
We shouldnt be comparing our cas to Toyotas anymore. Thats what KIA is for, and we all know even deep down inside for some of you guys, that KIA has the superior product over Toyota.
Anyway guys, this is the next Gen Accent Plaform, so expect only the highest of marks from the National Traffic Highway Administration in 2011 for the Accent.

I knew this was going to happen. Hyundai promised the Europeans, that they would get a very safe B-Segment car. The Hyundai reps also promise the same of the Accent in the future.

Hyundai might be developing a Mercedes Benz-Europeanesque strategy in the US. Even the smallest cars will have all of the trimmings, when they are through. While Hyundai in Europe seems a step above the Hondas of the world.
May 29th, 2009 at 12:39 am
Well, in Europe Hyundai only needs a bit more attractive designs and their will not only overtake Honda but also some other European names.
Let’s face it, Hyundai i30 and i20 are not bad looking cars, but competition offers a bit more spicy designs.

True admin, but remember the i20 has more interior space than the Ibiza, Polo, Yaris, Current Gen Accent, or Fit (Jazz). It also seems like Hyundai is going for that 25-45 Year old crowd with this car. People who are looking for a Grown-ups Hatchback, but want something more managable unlike the i30 will most likely be the primary buyers of this car.

The i30 CW (Elantra Touring) is a huge car. A whale of a car actually, its size turns me off. If I want something that Big id get a truck, or a very big Sonata or Genesis.

I really don’t believe it. I hope Wayne is ok for the cup!
