Latest Hyundai Sonata YF spy shots
Here are the latest spy shots of the 2010 Hyundai Sonata sedan. Prototypes of the next gen Sonata have been caught while undergoing pre-production testing for several times by now, but none of the images has shown the new Hyundai mid-sizer from up-close.
Today, a near-production prototype of the next generation Sonata has been spied again and shots that I am posting here are revealing it in all its glory.
The current generation Hyundai Sonata might be recognized as a boring looking sedan, but thats not the case this time. Unlike many of its competitors, the new Sonata sports a four-door coupe like exterior design. At the first glimpse it looks similar as a Merceds-Benzs CLS or VW Passat CC, both sporting a similar low-slopping roof line.
While its front is still massively disguised, I reckon it will feature a very attractively designed front fascia. A part of the front fascia has already been revealed today, when I showed you a real life image of Sonatas bumper. Now, you can also see the headlights and a three-bar chrome grille up-close.
Until now, Sonata prototypes were wearing black pre-production alloy-wheels, but now the car has been equipped with beautiful alloy-wheels. Most likely, those are production alloy wheels and will be available when Sonata goes on sale. Another interesting part are the rear-view mirrors that look like they were taken from some race-car.
Parked near Sonata YF is a 2010 Hyundai Tucson, codenamed LM. The compact crossover is also expected to make its official debut pretty soon with official sales beginning in December 2009.

The only word that comes to mind after seeing this is…WOW!…this new sonata looks fantastic…interior though already pretty decent in the current gen looks like it’s been pushed up a couple of levels…btw…the front has slight resemblance to those supposed renderings posted a couple of months back.

look at the tucson next to it. looks pretty nice.
and the interior of the sonata, i can only say woooow ! looks better than Honda Accord interior, if only Ford and Chevrolet can learn from these Korean interior designs instead of having every single car in the line up with the same damn interior (Edge, Taurs X,Taurs, Focus,Lincoln MKZ, MKX, fusion, flex, ….etc) all the same interior. why cant the americans think outside the box. i find it strange. i hope their ego and stubbornness takes them down the drain.

Preach it Victor! Hey is it me or does this look like two different Sonata models here? What’s up with that grille? …and mirrors… These ARE definately 2 different cars unless this person is James Bond and changes their plates in mid transit.

Oh yeah, John that makes sense now. I do notice the mirror colors, my mistake.

@ yagz: Completely agree with you. That is the FIRST thing I thought as well - nice job with the big shoes and rims to fill the wheel wheels.

I have high hopes for this car but to be honest I am a little concerned about its design. I love how they are taking a risk to step out of the conservative design theme but the headlight design (from what we can see) looks like it isn’t going to look all too good and its going to be something that I will have to get used to over time I guess. Anxious and nervous to see the design!

The Sonata grille look more like the portico spy shots grille.

John,
Have you checked out the possibility or probability of using the safer lithium and faster charging nano phosphate batteries from A-123 Battery for the next Sonata Hybrid?
Just as a side note:
It doesn’t really make me happy the GE has put 15 billion dollars into the newly formed corporation then but it is better spent then going to some nameless California activist group. Looks like GE might be looking to use the batterie design on a large scale for electric powered switch yard locomotives.

If you look at the front grill its the same as the Genesis Concept: http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/Q/k/ny_hyundai_genesis.jpg
so im pretty sure the back of the car will look like this because the shape looks pretty much the same http://images.paultan.org/uploads/2007/03/hyundai-genesis-concept-3.jpg
