Front bumper of the next generation Hyundai Sonata/i40
Back in February, I brought you a rendering of the next generation Hyundai Sonata/i40. That rendering revealed the look of Sonatas front fascia in details. You could have noticed huge front grille with three chrome bars positioned in-between a pair headlamps at the upper part of front fascia, while the lower part featured three elegant air-intakes and no fog lights.
Following that rendering I brought you earlier this year, is the first real-life image of the 2010 Sonatas front bumper. Those who doubted the rendering to be accurate have now a chance to compare three images (after the jump) and see they are all a perfect match.
As the image above and some spy shots from before already revealed, the 2010 Sonata will be radically different to the current model and will feature far more modern styling. In addition, Hyundai revealed the future Sonata will have some advance powertrain options including new 2.2L R-diesel engine and a gasoline turbo engine.
It will also be available as a hybrid car, using the same hybrid powertrain as we have seen debuting at L.A. Auto Show last year. The 2010 Sonata is going to be Hyundais first foray on to global hybrid car market therefore I am really looking forward to see whether the vehicle will be capable of competing head to head against its main rivals from Toyota and Honda.
Codenamed YF, the next generation Hyundai Sonata/i40 will make its official debut at the end of this year and is expected to go on sale in early 2010.

This rendering-image was just sent to me from a person named Kim and shows how the bumper fits to the front fascial of the Sonata prototype. Thanks for the image Kim!

Looks good…but isn’t the space for the grill a bit big?
April 22nd, 2009 at 8:20 pm
Seems like there’s gonna be a huge grille…
April 22nd, 2009 at 10:56 pm
Also, the bumper reminds me of the hyundai genesis coupe concept…

Let’s hope they shrunk the grille to look more like the one admin posted earlier and like the link that EH is showing here! This LOOKS more like a Lexus killer than a Hyundai!
We will see.

Nice Sonata, very nice. Fu-k Lexus!!!!

Hyundai should make Blue Zenons as stock lights. The other Luxury makes do it, we should try it.
April 23rd, 2009 at 8:28 am
That would not be good. I’ve been told that REAL Zenon lights can cost upwards of over $100 to replace the bulb and $1000 to replace the whole unit! They are not cost effective at all… Notice the latest Acuras and lower end Lexus now have these lights as options and not standards! They were insurance busters! Maybe simple blue tinted halogens or clustered LEDs would be a nice substitute!

So it is definitely following the Genesis style, very good, hope they keep following this road, if they do there are serious chances to rise up highly in reputation.

Going to be nice..

It doesn’t match entirely. The lower air dam on the mule is smaller and the fog lights are in a different position to the covered YF. The grille also appears to extend lower on the 2010 test car. I’m not convinced…
April 24th, 2009 at 10:27 pm
Graham B,
The lower air dam is just a cover up. The black sheeth is purposely made to look like it has a smaller opening.
April 25th, 2009 at 4:49 am
Maybe so, CVBS, but the fog lights are in a different position and the grille should extend lower. It looks like a mock up with incorrect mouldings.
I think this render is close to the real thing:
http://www.themotorreport.com.au/23325/a-new-2010-yf-hyundai-sonata-rendering-surfaces/
It perfectly matches an official Hyundai ad that revealed a covered YF Sonata displaying some of the front and rear, and was soon after removed from the original site, maybe because of possible litigation.
