Formula DRIFT: Red Bull / RMR Hyundai Genesis Coupe debuts
While the rest of the motorsport have been facing less sponsorship money and fewer teams, the Formula DRIFT continues to grow with new enterants joining the competition. Among all brand-new drift cars debuting during this weekends opening event Formula drift race we could have seen the Red Bull sponsored Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Driven by Rhys Millen, the stunning rear-wheel-drive Hyundai Genesis Coupe has made a very competitive debut. Although not winning, Genesis Coupe was one of the most attractive cars on the track and it did gain plenty of attention from Formula DRIFT fans.
Developed by RMR (Rhys Millen Racing), the Hyundai Genesis Coupe utilizes a KW remote reservoir three-way adjustable coilover suspension. Adjustable chro-moly sway bars dial the suspension in further for true track performance. It also features adjustable lower control arms, rear control arms and toe links to allow precise tuning of the chassis.
Its powered by 3.8L Lambda V6 unit that has been stroked to 4.1-liters and further enhanced by a Turbonetics turbocharger. The upgraded engine produces 550 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to a HKS sequential transmission.
The 2009 Formula DRIFT season continues on May 8-9 in Braselton, GA at Road Atlanta for round. You can take a look for more Red Bull / RMR Hyundai Genesis Coupe pictures at Autoblog that features a complete image coverage from the opening event of Formula DRIFT.

yeah it was a VQ in it for the first race cos hyundai only announced the plan really late and they had to build one car for the auto show and an actual race car. the engine will be replaced with the 4.1 liter stroked RS lambda in a few months. hopefully that is why the result wasnt so flash. good luck rhys~! show us what you did in 2005!!!
