2009 New York Auto Show: unknown concept car spotted
Is Hyundai having a concept car in store for the upcoming 2009 New York Auto Show?
Folks at Autoblog have posted some interesting (spy) shots today. One of their readers has caught an unknown vehicle -possibly a concept car, while parked on the street. The unknown concept could be yet another Hyundai concept car. If that turns out to be true, then we will likely see it officially unveiled during the forthcoming New York International Auto Show that kicks off in the second week of April.
Although the pics are not of the highest quality, you can see the concept features a very attractive crossover-like exterior design and a pair of huge gullwing doors. It is coated in the silver color and equipped with a set of huge tires and 7-spoke alloy wheels. At its rear-end, you will notice very small rear.window and a pair of bumper integrated chrome tail-pipes.
Now, the main reason why we think this is a concept car from Hyundai Motor Company lies in its design DNA, which resembles that of the ix-onic crossover concept revealed in Geneva earlier this year. Another fact speaking for its self is that over the last few years, Hyundai has used the “Big Apple” auto show events to preview some of its most important production-ready models and concept cars.
At the same auto show in 2007, we have seen Genesis sedan in its concept form for the first time, while last year, striking Genesis Coupe made its official US premiere…
So far, no one has confirmed this concept to be a Hyundai concept, but things should get more clear in the next couple of days when automakers are expected to release their official New York Auto Show press-packs. Stay tuned! [Source: Autoblog]

It looks very similar to the new plug-in hybrid concept(HND-4). Maybe it is.

Could be a Hybrid concept? Could be a Next Gen Accent, you never know? I just know one thing it isnt, a CUV. Its too low to the ground, and the ix-onic is going to be the next gen Tuscon. Hyundai wont make a smaller crossover than that. You cant get much smaller than a Tuscon anyway, without it becoming a car.

Nice call Patrick: Could definitely be a Ford concept. If it was, I would be extremely impressed. Some clean lines. Tho somehow I don’t think gull wing doors is going to make it to production..
However, the front end has a slight resemblance to the Genesis Sedan in my opinion..

Okay.. So today’s post (’Nuvis’ teaser pic) clearly shows that this is likely a Hyundai vehicle. Impressive but was actually kind of hoping that we would see something fresh out of the Ford Design studios to get things going again for them..
