Hyundai Motor America February 2009 sales
Have you seen latest US car sales numbers? Autoblog has published a very nice sales table by automakers regarding the US February 2009 car sales. If you are one of those interested in the monthly sales numbers, I strongly advise you to visit Autoblog.com, which covers monthly sales results for all car brands.
While the automotive industry struglles from falling new car demand, most automakers experienced sharp declines in sales last month. GM, Toyota, Honda and others have lost up to 50 percent or even more sales compared to the same month of last year. There are, however, some exceptions that have done a good job last month. Kia and Subaru both posted gains in February sales.
Hyundai did also quite good in the US in February, with sales falling “only” 1.5 percent compared to last years February. Hyundai Motor America reported its sales decreased to 30.621 vehicles from 31090 vehicles sold a year earlier despite aggressive marketing and a program that allows buyers to return their cars should they lose their jobs.
While sales of the Elantra compact sedan rose 33 percent to 8,978, the sales of the companys best selling model, the Sonata sedan, tumbled more than 40 percent. Hyundai Sonata has seen some ups and downs over the past few months, but itsyear-to-date numbers stay close to the last years numbers. Hyundai Genesis sedan has had the best selling month with sales going up to 1.263 units.

I planned to purchase a new Elantra but found out when I spoke to the sales person that Hyundai’s Northeast Regional Managers decided to NOT offer the Hyundai Loyalty Discount (aka VALUED OWNER coupon) on Accents and Elantras but for ALL other Hyundai models (ALL larger, less economical cars). I was angry about this decision and am now not sure I will even purchase an Elantra. I would have been driving one by now except for this very ill-advised marketing strategy which basically insults current owners looking to buy the newer Elantra (or Accent) models. It would have been a better marketing strategy to KEEP the Valued Owner discount and lower the REBATE amount. That would not have angered and offended current owners looking to replace their Accent or Elantra.

When will we see the new redesigned Tucson and new redesigned Sonata (with hybrid) in the streets in Canada and in the US…
Sales numbers are nice but info on the models made available is better… When when, I’m pushing back my new car purchase for one of those 2 (I’m also considering the Genesis Coupe) I know I know they are really different products but I just want to choose the hottest in the 3…
I currently own a 2003 Elantra Hatch GT (lowered 1,5″, CAI, swaybars, brakes, wheels…) with 170k on it and never had a problem caused by something else then me and my bad driving method…
