Hyundai Genesis Coupe heading towards Europe!
Hyundai plans to bring the Genesis Coupe to Europe with the number of units limited to a modest 1000 units!
With its 310 hp Genesis Coupe, Hyundai will not be breaking any sales records in European market, but will be building up on its image. European Genesis Coupe production will be limited to modest 1000 units per year.
“We choose a fixed number with a fixed price. In Germany the car costs 25,000 euros, which is significantly less than the 38,000 euro cost Nissan 350Z,” told Rafael Agullo, general manager of product planning at Hyundai Motor Europe.
While the US market gets both, a V6 and four-cylinder power, Hyundai revealed it only plans to sell the car with a less potent, turbo engine in Europe. Still, the 2.0L turbo packs enough power to move the vehicle from 0-100km/h in a pretty decent numbers.
Pricing has not been confirmed just yet, but we have learned that the Genesis Coupe will be priced around 25.000 Euros in Germany, which seems like a very attractive pricing, especially when compared to its main European rivals from Nissan (Z370), BMW (3-series coupe) and Audi (TT) each starting at above 30.000 Euros.
UPDATE: A couple of month after we posted this news, we still can not confirm Genesis Coupe coming to Europe. There’s a huge interest in the car, according to some European Hyundai dealers, but so far, Hyundai has not released any information about the official European sales dates.

I was really looking forward to buy the 3.8 v6 model, but so, it seems they decided to import here only the shitty version of this great car, I feel a bit offended, one lesser buyer.

The 2.0 is not shitty at all Mark. It packs a respectable 210 hp rating, which is not bad.
I think special orders for the V6 Gen Coupe will also be possible.

I hope so, anyway this car is builded around the 3.8, not on the 2.0.
Actually the 2.0 suffer from the weight of the car, ok that anyway you can easily upgrade a turbo engine, but a 3.8 v6 is totally one other thing, specially “on the music” it produce
.
I am an actual owner of Turbulence 2.0 cc(gez first and only car, march 2001), and I am pretty satisfied with it, it will never leave my home.

If an import will be the only option to get the V6 in Good Ol’ Europe I might consider buying something else …

I wish both would be available, but as of now, only 2.0L turbo has been confirmed.
I don’t see why would you cancle the deal for the V6, Jens, if it was only available as a special order. I don’t see a problem if a Hyundai dealer brings the V6 to me.
I wouldn’t go for a second hand import, but if a Hyundai dealer could order it from Korea, then I’d go with it anytime.

“I wouldn’t go for a second hand import, but if a Hyundai dealer could order it from Korea, then I’d go with it anytime.”
That one, I’d hope this option will be avaible, if not… well, I will continue to drive my actual Turbulence.

Mark, please do not post such comments before actually driving it yourself. The 2.0T is actually balanced better than the 3.8, naturally, and will be much easier and cheaper to increase the HP when the time comes as it is already an F/I engine.

Patrick, it’s not me talking, but who already drive tested it, and it isn’t just one person. It is a fact that couse of the weight the 2000cc version is more likely “sedan” than “sport”, ofc is really easy to upgrade(ecu remap) to have definitely better performance.
I also prefer to have a v8 engine than a 4 in line, but that is my personal opinion.
Still a great car anyway(and very very cheap), but I want the 3800 not the 2000, sry will never buy the 2000cc.

This is great news….do we know when the car will be ready for sale in Europe ? ? ? ?

I had 2000 model Coupe and bought 2003 model afterwords. I was really excited about gen cope as I thought that I will continue my legacy of coupe ownership and buy it. However I am very dissapointed by the fact only 1000 pieces will be available and just with 2.0 turbo (which is actually very tunable). I was hoping for the sweet sound of V6 in my garage but oh well….
ANyway does ANYBODY know what the hell will EU version have as standard or optional equipment? Brembo, LSD, Leather - can we even think about getting that?

Excuse me, but why do they compare the 210hp hyundai with the 340hp 370Z ??????? They are in a completely different league and so is their price!
May 7th, 2009 at 12:52 am
Well Fatalus, this is what everyone is talking about. the 3.6 V6 packs 310 BHP, which is close to the 370z. and i would go for a hyundai anytime as long as they import it. The first thing is that rear transmision is not for europe! Even BMW is getting to 4×4 driving. I hate this, but the european marked asks for safe, small, lame, good for nothing french, polish(skoda), german (VW) cars. So Hyundai ppl, won’t take the risk with the financial crisis at the door to bring V6 engines in lil safe, and monoton Smart driving Europe. As Nissan will never bring the GTR! I will try to make some imports for the V6 3.6 for next year. so if anyone is interested, please reply here with contact!

Seems that EU car makers lobby managed well to develop a strong protection of domestic market for “EU brands only” via a legal implementation of artificially overstressed safety details. Thereby effectively blocking interesting overseas car models to create a competition to high priced european brands. Pitty for 3.6 V6, pitty for Nissan GTR, pitty for common Europeans;-(

Wow… and a 2.0T track model too! (at least from the two-tone 2.0T track only seats and the 19″ wheels… can’t see the calipers though).
I really was pushing to get the base 3.8 V6, but 310HP with no brembos and no Limited slip differential seemed just dumb. I did get the 2.0T Manual and after six months, I still love the car very much… I do hope EU gets to enjoy the GC…
For those people who think the 2000cc is junk… The 3.8 that I test drove feels like the front end is stapled to the ground. The 2.0T does have much better handling. Despite the weight and it being only 210HP (223HP with 91octane), I still manage to give acuras and 3-series a run for their money, especially if they have lame paddle shifters…
