Hyundai ix-onic concept revealed to the automotive media
Last week, Hyundai invited some of the most renowned European automotive journalists to their corporate headquarters to preview its forthcoming concept and production cars. At the presentation, Hyundai revealed an ix-onic concept car (HED-6) and a three door i20 model ahead of their official public debut, scheduled for Geneva Motor Show.
Fellows at Autotelegraaf.nl have attended the event and they have published some exciting live shots of the ix-onic concept car. The ix-onic concept sports a new styling direction that Hyundai has been taking lately. It looks more aggressive and far more exciting than its predecessor.
The ix-onic concept not only previews the new design direction Hyundai has been taking, but also highlights some advanced powertrain technologies that will soon find their way into more Hyundai models.
Hyundais latest show car has been equipped with an all-new 1.6L turbo engine, developing hefty 175 horsepower and pairs the potent engine with a brand-new, in-house developed, 6-speed automatic transmission.
At the preview event, Hyundai also revealed the next generation Tucson will be built at Kias manufacturing plant in Slovakia (Europe) alongside next generation Kia Sportage and will be renamed to the ix35. The nomenclature change only refers to the European model, while the US version retains the Tucson name.
According to Hyundai officials, production ready ix35 is set to make an official world premiere at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. [Source: Autotelegraf.nl]

The front of the genesis coupe shoulda looked like this… flattened down a little of course. I like the dual grill

I think the dual grille scheme might be a way to separate Hyundais low cost offerings from the high cost offerings.

Hyundai, it would be nice if you put that gauge cluster in the i20 when it comes to the US rebadged as an Accent!!!!!

This looks awesome? But what do you mean by dual grille? The way the lower facia extends high up like on Touring?
What class is this- compact (tuscon) midsize (santafe) or large (veracruz)?

If this is a Tuscon then I want one. For me that would be more practical than a car would right now…. and economical.

only thing that is bad about this design is the orange LEDs which dont flow well at all with the body. the color isnt that great either. other than that its fantastic!

I agree with Patrick… to a point. I don’t mind the orange signal lights, but I think that all the “lights” are a little oversized. It’s kinda like looking at an anime cartoon character with oversized eyes. I mean those headlamp covers are almost the length of the hood. THAT will be an expensive insurance item. I thsink they should integrate the frint signal lights with the headlights and put fog lights in place of them. the overalll design is really very… organic… kinda feminine-artsy.
