Hyundai ix-onic (HED-6) concept car makes an early unveiling
Hyundai’s latest concept car, the ix-onic crossover makes its debut ahead of Geneva auto show.
Say hello to the Hyundai ix-onic concept car! The ix-onic is the latest concept car from Hyundai Motor Company and previews the next generation Tucson crossover. It has been set to make an official public unveiling at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, which kicks off on March 3rd.
The concept car looks very close to the car we have seen on the teaser image that Hyundai released last week. The concept features a distinctive design marked with aggressive character lines that flow all over the body. The lower part of the front fascia sports a huge air-intake and fog lights incorporating LED technology.
Under the hood, the ix-onic concept features a direct injection 1.6L turbo engine, developing 175 hp and generating only 149 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The five-seater show car measures 4.4 meters long by 1.85 m wide by 1.65 m high and offers seating for five adults.
Slightly different version of the ix-onic concept will soon find its way into production. The production ready model will replace the ageing Tucson crossover, which has been on sale since 2005. The second generation Tucson is rumoured to make an official world debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September.

HELLOOOOO TUCSON!!! i’m sure this is a preview of what the tucson will look like. note the similarities in the spy shots & renderings. it looks good, i hope this is it. & i hope they keep the lower grille pattern. so many concepts have cool things like that but none keep them. hyundai is obviously smart enough to give us cool cars with great design so maybe it’ll make it. i’d love it.

This concept was unveiled in HMMC Nosovice in Czech Republic today. The new generation of Tucson should not have been very different than this concept. Maybe will disappear LED lights, too much chrome parts and double fishtail.

One thing i can gaurantee wont be on the production models is the built in dual exhaust

True John and if you look closer and compare it to the spy shots, there are more design elemnts that won’t make it.
Unfortunatelly, a lot of things will be changed. Just remember the Arnez concept and it’s production version i30 model. Arnez was such a hot concept vehicle, but i30 ended with a very boring design.

Yup by comparing this with all the spy shots, we may be in for a major disappointment. A shame too because to my eyes, the concept is production ready. I see no reason why Hyundai shouldn’t have stuck to their guns on this.
I hope I’m proved wrong though.

Wow, I really like this…especially the interior minus the chrome. It reminds me of the HED-5 from the front. It is so many light years ahead of the 2005 model I once owned. I also appreciate the link from “Wonderful”. I do like the chrome exterior. It steps it up in class in my opinion. I don’t know John, they may keep the integrated exhaust.. this type of fabrication is becoming easier to do where even 5 years ago this would have been unheard of. I’m sure a lot of the details will be simplified by the time it gets to final production. I just hope it doesn’t loose it’s design intent.
Hey admin, what up with the concept car “retro” images? We haven’t seen much from there in a while. I was wondering if the Equus was referenced from any particular concepet car. Thanks for the all the research you do.

Thanks to ‘Wonderful’ and ‘hyundaifan’ for the links.
Looks fantastic tho I expect to see a lot less chrome if/when it hits the streets. Great proportions and profile is amazing.
Finally – this light blue color is a real nice choice imo..
