Hyundai HED-6 concept headed for Geneva Motor Show
Hyundai HED-6 concept car headed for Geneva Motor Show debut…
Watch out Hyundai fans, your favourite car company is planning to bring an all-new, stunning concept vehicle to the Geneva Auto Show! Earlier today, Hyundai released an interesting sketch image that previews the styling shape of its latest concept vehicle.
According to some leaked inside information, HED-6 (Hyundai European Design No.6) concept previews the 2010 Hyundai Tucson crossover, which is slated to debut in the second half of this year.
HED-6 concept car was penned at the company’s European Design headquarters in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Its design combines muscular design and everyday utility to fit comfortably in an urban or out-of-town environment.
The dramatic exterior design is enhanced by the hexagonal grille, LED daytime running lights, angular style lines and piercing back-swept front headlamps, with the bold look completed by 21-inch, six-spoke, alloy wheels.
The three-dimensional, sculpted shape of the rear window is achieved using “Lexan” high-performance plastics instead of regular glass. To emphasize the dynamic flowing lines, the designers have developed a special “Ice Blue” exterior paint, with an advanced pigment effect for a brilliant shine.
HED-6 concept is powered by Hyundais brand new 1.6L GDI (gasoline-direct-injection) TURBO engine that generates 175 horsepower! The state-of-the-art four-cylinder engine has been given a green light so we will soon see it appear in various Hyundai models. HED-6s engine is mated to a smooth-shifting 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Allan Rushforth, Vice President at Hyundai Motor Europe said, “The HED-6 concept brings an entirely new look to Hyundais SUV line-up. It fuses a robust exterior with a fresh and elegant interior, making for an eye-catching package, while its latest-generation power train highlights Hyundai’s clean-technology expertise.”
Hyundai HED-6 concept will not be the only vehicle Hyundai will bring to this years auto event. The company will also use Geneva Auto Show show to unveil an eco-friendly i30 Blue variant, which features start-stop technology and the new entry level three door i20 hatch.

Wow.. if the tuscon looks like this…that would be AWSOME

This concept looks amazing, but the Tucson will not look exactly like this, although I wish it did!!
You can compare the concept to the Tucson we have seen on spy shots here: http://www.hyundai-blog.com/index.php/category/spy-shots/2010-tucson/

true…plus if they made it like this…santa fe sales would pretty much stop
February 9th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
That could be true! Santa Fe would loose lots of sales, even more if Hyundai brought the hybrid Tucson to the market, as rumored before.
But still, I wish they would be more aggressive with their production designs. Hyundai makes so wonderful concepts that once we see a wattered down production model, we get, well at least I get really disappointed!!

I remember first seeing the Genesis concept many moons ago and my first thought was ‘Home Run’. Kudos to Hyundai for staying relatively true to form with the Genesis Sedan (as they did also with the Genesis Coupe).
Well, I will say it again. If Hyundai can make the production vehicle looking very similar to the above sketch, then I predict they will have a tough time keeping up with demand.

With respect to vehicle demand.. Obviously demand for vehicles have fallen off considerably worldwide but taking the US market alone, where sales for the Big 3, Toyota and Honda have fallen in excess of 30-40% YoY in January, sales for Hyundai vehicles have apparently increased 14%! This is an amazing feat considering the tough economic climate. Goes to show that people are still buying the ‘right’ vehicles.
Make this a bit smaller than the Santa Fe, more fuel efficient and package with their new ‘Assurance Program’ (where customers can return vehicles if they lose jobs) and the Tuscon would be a stunner..

Why is this pic relevant to me? I was thinking of springing for an Audi Q5 in a few years but I am looking to be more careful with my personal expenses.
Therefore, if the Hyundai was to product something looking like the above rendering, I would have no qualms buying a vehicle one. Actually, I think this has the potential to look better than the Q5 – arguably more aggressive. One word to sum it up: Balanced.

the wheels look really 2D in this render but the car itself looks awesome. i especially LOVE the character line and the single chrome bar on the DLO… hyundai should really start using that hexagonal grille that the euro design team keeps showing us…

This is a nice vehicle. The rear end of this car reminds me of the Infinity FX series… but this is much nicer. Love to see what the grille looks like. Wow, a turbo 1.6 liter engine that gets 175hp? With AWD, that would be just about the most fuel efficient SUV on the planet! That can’t be real… can it? I’m sure with specs like it can’t be very utilitarian. It would be great in snow though.

Yup, this is the brand new turbo engine that will find it’s way to many future Hyundais. The 1,6 Turbo joins the 2.0L turbo and according to some rumors,Hyundai has a 1.2L (108hp) turbo engine under development.
