Sneak peak preview of the 2010 Hyundai Sonata, codenamed YF
This is believed to be the very first image of an undisguised 2010 Hyundai Sonata/i40, codenamed YF. The automakers all-new mid-sized sedan is set to replace the ageing Sonata sedan and is most likely to appear in its production form at the 2009 Seoul Motor Show in May!
The 2010 Sonata will initially be offered as a sedan, but we have been hearing rumors spreading around that Hyundai plans to bring a Sonata wagon variant to the market as well. Details on the Sonatas powertrain are yet to be confirmed, but we have learned that both, gasoline and diesel offerings will be available at launch.
Under the bonnet, we are expecting to find four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines (2,4L Theta II and 3.3L V6) along with 2.0L and 2.2L CRDI diesel units that Hyundai just recently developed. Manual and automatic gearboxes with 6-speed will be available across the Sonata range.
The afore-mentioned engines are expected to offer class-leading performance figures, while delivering low emission outputs and fuel consumption values compared to the current Sonata sedan.
Plans are already well underway to also bring the electric-hybrid Sonata to the market. Hyundai will introduce the Sonata hybrid in 2010 and will bring it to the States and other global markets.
Hyundais parallel hybrid system mates a 2,4L gasoline engine to the 40hp electric motor and 6-speed automatic transmission so the car can move via the gasoline engine, electric power, or combination of the two. The Sonata hybrid will also be the worlds first hybrid car to use the lithium polymer battery pack.
While Hyundai has not officially released any debut information, we have learned that the 2010 Hyundai Sonata/i40 will most likely appear at the upcoming Seoul Motor Show in May, where it will make its official domestic debut.

“This is believed to be the very first image of an undisguised….”
Who “believes” this? Ten people? One person? Anyone important believe this? Anyone with credentials believe this?
Or is it the janitors wife who believes this?
Because if that’s the case it’s as meaningless a statement as is possible… and as vague as the photo itself.

hi admin,
have you seen my two post yesterday – new model in full show?
February 4th, 2009 at 3:53 am
Hmmm. That’s sad. If this is true. I liked the “rendering” admin. posted back on December 15th much better! Although if that was supposed to be the Sonata back then, I figured the Azera would be hideous or truly amazing looking. I guess somethings are too good to be true. The anticipated “inferred” images of the Sonata from December were (as I later analyzed) obvously the Genesis Photoshoped to look like a smaller car. Whoever did THAT design needs a job somewhere in the SOMBODY’s design department because the elegance of the grille that was shown in that image is NOT here! Apparently, unfortunately Hyundai doesn’t look at the blogs because if they did, and they saw the 41 responses on this blog and the ones on thecar blogger and others, maybe Hyundai would have reconsidered their design if they knew that there was an image out there that was good enough to sell their car before it was released…. if that makes any sense… maybe they would have went back to the drawing board to give the people what they wanted… That would have been a first for any car company… Design by consumer… hmmm. Any thoughts?

EH, what do you mean by two post – new model in full show?
These renderings look amateurish. Not much detail and very distorted. Like to know their origin? Admin?
February 4th, 2009 at 10:14 am
I truly believe this is actually the real image of the next gen Sonata. It looks like a rendering because I have enlightened it so you can see more exterior details.
The image was sent to me by a friend of mine that asked not to be identified!

Thanks Admin. I appreciate your reply. The swooping grille and shape of the headlights could be correct, given spy shots of mules.
February 4th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Admin, Any chance of seeing the original pics? They might be grainy but they shouldn’t be distorted.
February 4th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Agreed. I’d like to see the original unaltered picture please.
February 4th, 2009 at 10:38 pm
Ok that drawing i’d say personally is hideous..dont get me wrong i loved the rendering of the sonata and the spy shots look good..it’s just the bad drawing

This is the link i am referring to – not sure if this will be the i40\sonata that will be released or if this is just an updated sonato model for china – cause on this, the interior looks the same as the current model. i suspect the pics on the link i have is for china and looking at the spy pics above you cn see the grill is definetly different. maybe i jumped to conculsion to soon.

Thanks EH. Yes, it is the recently facelifted Chinese version, known as the NFC Sonata. The shots above are the YF or 2010 Sonata due for unveiling in May.

I wouldn’t say that front view at the bottom is convincing.. There may be some new design elements shown above but I wouldn’t bet money it is the actual vehicle..
February 7th, 2009 at 8:20 am
Does anyone agree that the grill is too big ??
February 9th, 2009 at 12:35 am
Admin, any progress on posting the unaltered pics?
February 11th, 2009 at 4:20 am
You crack me up. I’ll pretend I did not notice the MS Paint Hyundai logo and the pixellated front grille slats.
February 11th, 2009 at 7:53 am
GenCoupe,
Have to agree. It’s plainly obvious there is no picture. Failure by Admin to produce it does not help credibility.

Looks nice
I own 07 SE and the car is great. Hyundai is serious about quality & competitive pricing. Would consider one after a year or two of initial production. Thanks for the nice pic

I just got back from a week in Arizona,
I was supposed to rent an Impala but Avis
said they were out of them and i got a
2010 Hyundai Sonata..I was a bit disapointed
at first but after I got in and drove the car
it was wonderful, Smooth, Fast and responsive.
My wife owns a 2001 Honda accord
and this car compares to the older accord, and we
love our older accord Honda can have the new ones.
We cringe when we have to drive a new honda because
they are not built as good as the older ones.
This Sonata has excellent power with the 4cyl just
like our 01 accord. It rides smooth almost as good
as our Olds 98 regency. it handles like a sports car.
I put almost 700 miles on it and spent $40 in gas
Out in AZ you can drive 75 mph on the interstate
and I excellerated to pass a tractor trailer and
looked down at the speedometer and it was at 100 mph
and i didn’t realize it. I will seriously think of
buying one of these when I’m looking for a new car in
the next few years..If you are an old honda owner and your
last car was a 98-02 accord this sonata has the room our
accords have…When we drove out in AZ we went up I-17 to
Flagstaff, I-40 to Holbrook and 77 to taylor and on the way
back we went 277/260 to payson and then 87 to Mesa and this car pulled all these hills with no trouble….if i didn’t own 4 cars already I would think about getting one and you can still get one in the low $20′s where you get a high end accord and you pay 30 K…I thought I would never be saying this but Drive the Hyundai before going for the Accord, impala, taurus or any chrysler product you won’t be sorry
