Next generation Hyundai Tucson rendering
The fellows at Globalmotors have published two exciting renderings previewing the 2010 Hyundai Tucson. Since all Tucson prototypes have been heavily disguised, these two renderings are very speculative, but both provide a great first look at what production model could look like. (Kudos to the artist!)
The Tucson crossover, internally codenamed the LM, will be replacing the current Tucson model, which has been on sale since 2005 and has achieved some high sales numbers over the past few years. In its first and second year on the market (2005 and 2006), the Tucson had been the best selling Hyundai vehicle with sales reaching close to 200,000 units per year.
Since then, its sales has been steadily slowing down. We can find several reasons for that, but the No. 1 reason for its slower sales is most definitely the heating competition. When Hyundai put the Tucson on the market in 2005, there have only been a few competitors out there, but lately, the compact SUV/CUV segment has been flooded with crossovers from Opel (Antara), VW (Tiguan), Ford (Kuga), Mitsubishi (Outlander) and others.
As Hyundai wants to tempt buyers away from its mainstream rivals, the company is preping to launch the Tucson successor. The new model is expected to be slightly bigger and should provide more cabin space than the outgoing model. What is even more important, the next generation Tucson will take on its rivals with completely redesigned exterior, more refined interior, and advanced powertrains and transmissions.
A new 2.0-litre diesel engine will spearhead the line-up, while a revised version of the firms existing 2.4-litre gasoline unit will also be offered. In favor of lower fuel consumption, the all-new Hyundai Tucson will also be equipped with 6 speed automatic and manual transmissions.
We were not told when exactly the Tucson will be released, but the company has revealed the 2010 Hyundai Tucson is scheduled to debut this year! [Source: Globalmotors ]

Wow, simply exceptional. This actually looks smaller than the curren Tucson but I doubt it would be smaller. Perhaps proportions creating the illusion of small dimensions.
I’m calling this the poor man’s Audi Q5. I think these lines look far better than those of the Infiniti EX35 and in-line with the Acura RDX. I’ve heard many good things about the current Tuscon but the styling never did it for me. This rendering does it for me. The lines have been cleaned up and makes for a much sharper profile in my opinion..
Finally: Whoever this artist is, I hope the Hyundai group finds the artist and hires him/her. Fantastic work.

I agree it looks nice but in the blue picture the rear end seems a bit short

In response to Alex S.
I, too, think this looks amazing but the rear end is clearly a rip off of the Acura RDX which is a great vehicle. I wish that Hyundai would be a bit more unique when designing their vehicles instead of using others sucessful ideas.
Also, I haven’t heard many good things about the current Tucson at all. I have a co-worker who has one and the interior is full of cheap plastic bits and the engine gets pitifully poor fuel economy for the amount of power it has and its size. I believe he is averaging around 17MPG while my wife’s CR-V is around 23-24 combined.

Wow this looks pretty bad compared to the new possibility of the tuscon.

In response to Mitch:
Fair enough, you think it looks like an Acura RDX, I think it takes cues from Acura and Infiniti, whatever.. I’ve seen Japanese cos try and integrate a ‘Bangle Butt’ et al. - fact is, companies do this all the time. The overall design still looks fresh and different enough despite similarities to the FX/RDX..
Nice you are getting great fuel economy with your CRV. I have heard of a number of complains with the CRV being underpowered and I knew of a few ppl who had some problems with it (nothing major but still a hassle). I have test driven it and it was not a whole lot of fun and I do not remember the interior have a whole lot of soft-touch material.. I would take a RAV4 over it personally and the Kia over both if it looked like the pic.
For the record: I’m a pretty hard core Euro car guy..
