Hyundai Genesis sales: how many units has Hyundai sold in the USA so far
Hyundai Genesis salesWhen Hyundai announced it will bring its first luxury sedan to the US market, many people doubted that once a maker of cheap and inexpensive econo cars can play big time with all the “big boys”. There were (and still are) many non-belivers among automotive fans who thought this to be a mission impossible for Hyundai to steal sales from BMW, Lexus or even Merceds-Benz.
This was quite a mystery for us, Hyundai fans too, but following the proggress Hyundai has been making over the past years and awards the company has garnered based on peoples opinions have encouraged us that this is the right timing for Hyundai brand to release its first US destined luxury sedan.
And we werent wrong! Hyundai Genesis has done a great job so far. Despite worldwide financial crisis, which has greatly slowed down the demand for luxury cars, Genesis sedan maintains its sales numbers above 1,000 units per month. Its sales was lower than 1,000 units only in its first month, when supply was still limited and dealers didnt have enough cars on their lots.
Since its introduction in July, the company has sold 5,127 units (till the end of November ’08). Even in December ’08, in one of the worst sales months in the past 12 years, Hyundai moved 1,041 Genesis sedans from dealers showrooms!
Genesis sedan is a rear-wheel-drive vehicle that belongs to the luxury vehicle segment where it competes with all the top-tier auto brands. The luxury car segment is dominated by a group of “Made in Germany” limousines including BMW 5-sries, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz. But there are also others top tier car models such Lexus GS, Cadilac CTS or Volvo S80and we should not forget to mention them as well.
In the group of worlds finest limousines, how does the Genesis compete with the likes of BMWs, Audis and others? This time, we are not interested in characteristic numbers, but monthly sales statistics and that reveals Genesis sedan has done a great job in its first six months and figures show it already outperforms several more prestigious nameplates.
Its sales numbers are exceeding our expectations and by far surpassing sales predictions of those car enthusiasts that still dont consider Hyundai as a top-tier automaker.
Below, you can see a comparisson table providing Hyundai Genesis sales numbers and comparing them to each of the afore-mentioned luxury model.
Hyundais U.S. vice president of marketing, Joel Ewanick, told: “Over the past 90 days, the Genesis has sold “at or near objectives” and the company considers its performance to be “a very healthy launch.” The sedan went on sale in July, and dealers have shifted 6,538 units thus far, including 1,411 last month. Ewanick notes that fully 90 percent of all Genesis buyers are originating outside of the brand, including 40 percent that “have traded in vehicles like Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche.”

Well, I have not driven Genesis yet, but I do believe it’s a wonderful car. As one of Hyundai’s high ranking officials said, this is the car that incorporates up to date know-how and everything what Hyundai has learned in the past 20 years.
I believe with the VI comng into production next month, they will make another step further and bring even more stunning vehicle to the market.
Other than that, Genesis sells pretty well in USA and already outsells it’s main rivals, the Lexus GS and Cadilac STS and it is tied with Infiniti limousine.
Once economy shows a nicer face and people start car shopping again, Genesis could have even better sales. So let’s hope this happen fast!

I purchased the v6 technology package last week. I am a former BMW owner. My lease was up for my 745. I drove the new E class as well as an 09 745. There is no reason to pay double the prices for the same features and comfort. Over the weekend I removed all the H badges and replaced them with the Korean badges. Its a real head turner. I have no regrets with my purchase.
