Exclusive: 2010 Hyundai Equus (VI) renderings released
2010 Hyundai Equus -VI
Hyundai has released the first designer sketches of its next generation super luxury sedan. Codenamed VI, this all-new large sized Hyundai sedan will adopt the Equus name from its predecessor and is expected to hit the South Korean Hyundai showrooms in February 2010.
New Hyundai flagship model is expected to showcase Hyundais most advanced and sophisticated safety, transmission and engine technologies. New Equus will benefit from latest safety equipment that will include goodies such as the second-generation Vehicle Stability Management System (VSM2), a Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and a Pre-Safety Seatbelt System which on detecting an imminent front-end collision, automatically reels-in the safety belts to maximize the safety of the occupants. It will also feature LED technology equipped headlights -Hyundais first- and rearlights as well.
The 2010 Hyundai equus is also believed to be the first Hyundai vehicle to receive an in-house developed 8-speed automatic gearbox. The brand-new Hyundai tranny will be mated to the award-winning 4,6L V8 engine. About six months later, Hyundai also plans to roll-out even more potent engine unit with the displacement of 5,0L and approximately 400+ horsepower. Some rumours also indicate that both engines will also feature a gasoline direct injection technology and cylinder deactivation technology.
The 2010 Hyundai Equus -VI will replace the aging Equus sedan, that hit Korean market in 1998 and was the first Korean-made vehicle to feature gasoline direct engine technology (GDI) and a V8 powerplant. The old Equus sedan was a front-wheel-drive vehicle, while the 2010 Hyundai VI is adopting a new rear-wheel-drive architecture.
This is the first official teaser image (released by Hyundai in summer ’08) that previews the upcoming Hyundai Equus sedan.

It looks pretty good. But on the first pics the third side window looks alike from VW Phaeton, but on second pics like from Buick LaCrosse. Bravo Hyundai

The sketches do look good. Much better than what the outline in the teaser shot seems to promise. But I’m surprised that it won’t be on sale for over a year, especially since it’s my understanding that the current Equus is already out of production.

oh my…. this is fantastic!!! haha it looks way better than current S-class or 7 series!! ^^ But i do like the look of Lexus LS and this Equus~ I wonder what the interior might look like…. >_<

I think the Equus VI is GORGEOUS! IT looks like a very angry S-550! God I hope they bring it to the U.S. I love my Genesis, but, would be happy to jump to the Equus VI when my lease is up in Twenty months!

Looking at these shots, I can only say GORGEOUS! But, production ready Hyundai vehicles are always toned down, so do not expect so aggressive production car!
Even irst spy shots, although covered in heavy camouflage, have revaled that production model will be far from the one we see here.
It will be more elegant than sporty and aggressive, which is a pitty actually, since the rendering looks so awesome!

[...] Hyundai doesn’t seem to be affected by the global financial crisis that has hit the auto market really bad in the last few months, and released some sketches with what looks like their new flagship: the 2010 Hyundai Equus. Formerly known as VI the car is going to use the rear-wheel drive technology from the Genesis platform, has a 4.6 liter V8 engine (and later 5.0 V8) that should develop some 400hp. Hyundai is all set to debut the new Equus in South Korea in February 2010. Do you think it will get close to the German premium automakers, because from what I see, the front resembles some Merc-flavor, isn’t it? – via Hyundai Blog [...]

Even the car (shown in the teaser photograph) will not have the sketchy sporty look as the rendering, this is a beautiful car. The lines on the side remind me of the 4 door Dodge Charger. Adding this design element to a luxury car is quite unique. I hope it comes to the states and sell it for about $40 to $45G it will be another Genesis. A smash hit!

This does look amazing. Hyundai should bring it to North America. I have one request for Hyundai: please put the special badging on the cars. The Korean Genesis looks great with the Genesis badges, they should be brought to NA. Same goes if this car somehow makes it here.

They have the Bangle Flame surfacing on the side. This car is too gorgeous. I think a few months after this car rolls out, people would forget about Badge-Nazi-ing and think Hyundai is the truth.

I accept this sedan for AIT France Nanotech Conference.I feel scared that it is going to cost me money for my card so I can’t wait for driving it than a maybach 62 s. Thanks samsung for letting me. captain picard.

These renderings are simply gorgeous. Do note that the pictures depict what looks like oversize 20″ rims that would not likely make it to market and is part of the reason why I like the renderings.
Nevertheless, the overall shape of the vehicle is aggressive yet fluid. Unique yet balanced. The Genesis sedan was surprising close to the concept vehicle so lets see if this new vehicle is close to these sketches..

This vehicle is simply gorgeous. Way to go hyundai.
The market right now is hard for many other car companies, even the ‘great’ Toyota. But luckily Hyundai doesn’t seem like they are going thru economic crisis. (I strongly hope)
I have to admit, though, the previous Hyundai cars were horrible, starting with 2000 Tiburon, ugly as heck. However, when they came out with new sonatas and elantras, wow. they looked fantastic. (Even the new tiburon, except it is a front wheel drive
BLEH). So then, they come out with the new genesis, and this beauty. I’m very satisfied. I will look forward to getting one of these babies and check it out by myself.

Not that the production version isn’t nice, but if they had kept it really close to the drawings, it would look freaking amazing
