Here we have some new spy shots of the 2010 Hyundai Sonata, codenamed YF.

Here are the latest spy shots of the next generation Hyundai Sonata prototype. It was spotted while undergoing some on-road testing. This is already for the second time that 2010 Sonata YF got caught by spy photographers in the past thirty days, which means that Hyundai engineers are pushing development fast forward.

Making its official Korean debut in May 2009, the 2010 Hyundai Sonata YF will be also the first Hyundai car to be built on a new platform capable of  holding a hybrid-electric-drive system, which you could have seen officially presented by Hyundai at the L.A. auto show for the first time.

The hybrid system, which Hyundai has recently developed is made of several core components, including 2.4L Theta engine, 30kw electric motor, regenerative braking system, automatic engine start-stop system and a break-through 270V lithium polymer rechargeable battery.

Important news to us is also that new Hyundai Sonata will not feature a V6 engine anymore. The V6 power will be axed and replaced with 201 horsepower 2.4L GDI gasoline engine.

The hybrid drive system will first be available in 2010 Sonata YF, while later it will be used also on different crossover models. The first Hyundai CUV to benefit from the hybrid system will be the 2010 Hyundai Tucson.
