Future Hyundai Sonata/i40 shows a bit of rear-end
The future Hyundai Sonata sedan, scheduled to go on sale in early 2010, shows its rear-end.
Early in the morning, I received a very speical image from one of my Korean friends. It seems to be some kind of a teaser shot, but it wasnt officially released by Hyundai just yet. Well, nomatter what it is, the image showcases future Sonata sedan, which is expected to make its official Korean debut in May of next year.
Codenamed YF, this next generation mid-size sedan will be sporting much more attractive exterior shape than the current model. Proving that are numerous spy shots you could have seen lately and they revealed the future Sonata to have a sloping roof-line similar to that you see on a VW Passat CC 4-door coupe.
The new Sonata is expected to adopt many design cues from latest Hyundai concept cars and will be one of the first Hyundai vehicles to feature the brand’s new styling DNA language.
But Sonata is not going to be just a better looking vehicle, compared to its predecessor, it will also be a lot more technologicaly advanced. The 2010 Sonata will be the first Hyundai vehicle to use the Hybrid Blue Drive architecture, which was officially released at the L.A. auto show last week. Hybrid version of Sonata is scheduled to go on sale in 2010.
Other engine options will include a 2.0L turbo engine and a 2.4L gasoline direct injected engine, which will produce around 200 horsepower. You can expect the all-new Hyundai Sonata to make its official debut at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show, which is opening its doors at the beginning of December.

Ok, I’m confused now. If I got this right, I thought the lineup went like this: the i10 and the i20 were the Asian minicars that won’t come to the states. The i30 is the Elantra or Elantra touring equivalent. I thouthe the Sonata was the i40. And with the Equus equvalent being the i70 wouldn’t that make the Genesis Sedan like the i60 and the Azera equivalent the i50? Does that mean the Azera is eventually going bye bye? That would be sad. Or, are there going to be two Sonata series available? That would be confusing. Please explain. I don’t get it. Thank you for your time and efforts.

You must have seen a category for 2010 Hyundai Sonata where I misstakenly wrote i50.
About the naming, here’s a list of names that Hyundai will use on European market (if all models come to EU) and perhaps in US as well.
i10 =Atoz
i20 =Getz
i30 =Elantra
i40 =Sonata
i50 =Azera
i60 =genesis sedan
i70 =VI
Veracruz will be named iX55 in Europe. Once redesigned, Santa Fe will most probably get an iX45 name, and Tucson will get iX35.
