2010 Tucson and Sonata YF to get new 6-speed automatic transmission
Next generation Hyundai Sonata and Tucson crossover will be far more advanced products than the current ones. Featuring new, more attractive design, both will also have more novelties under their skin.
New Hyundai Sonata and new Hyundai Tucson will both will both be equipped with 184 - 200 horsepower, hi-tech four-cylinder diesel engine which will be mated to the all-new six speed automatic transmissions that Hyundai has just recently developed.
Developed in house, with Hyundais own technology, the six-speed automatic transmission will not only be applied to next generation Sonata and Tucson, but also to Azera, Veracruz SUV and Genesis sedan.
At the moment several Hyundai models use Aisin and ZF developed six-speed automatics, but starting with next year, mid-size Hyundai models will benefit from a newely developed six-speed transmission.
To start producing its new 6-speed automatic transmission, Hyundai has to wait until construction works on its new transmission plant are completed. Based in Ulsan (S. Korea), the plant has been under construction since October and is expected to be completed in the second half of next year.
Details on the new six-speed automatic transmission so far are slim, but as soon Hyundai reveals more information, we will post it here at the Hyundai Blog.

Well, that will make a difference. I used to have a 2005 and I liked the vehicle but it didn’t have much pickup. Although it had a 4 cyl. engine and was only front wheel drive.
I wonder if they will offer navigation on the lower models since you can get your own after market system in the US for under $300 and that’s a pretty nice system. I also assume they will arelase an AWD model too.

The six-speed automatic is only for V6 Genesis models. V8s will eventually get a new, in-house eight-speed auto.

So does this affect the Genesis Coupe which has the ZF 6 speed???
Another note - the Tucson certainly looks a thousand times sportier and looks a lot like the F/L2 Tiburon from what little I can see!

I have heard of it, but thanks God, it was only a rumor. I wouldn’t like to see Hyundai acquiering any other car company. They have come a long way alone and they should stay that way.

looks like Hyundai has got themselves a winner, with many customers switching to crossovers this will help boost overall rep and sales. Good job Hyundai!
