Hyundai Motor has launched its smallest car, the i10, in October 2007 and since then, the company has sold 172.000 units worldwide.

As you know, the i10 model is built in India, where Hyundai has set up two manufacturing plants with the capacity of 600.000 units. The Chennai-based Hyundai manufacturing plant is dedicated largely to the i10 production, but its current production lags far behind the demand for the popular mini car.

In order to meet its increasing domestic and worldwide demand, Hyundai added a third shift at the Chennai plant. The introduction of the new shift has upped i10′s daily production to 1,300 cars a day or 40% more cars than before. Thanks to the new shift, Hyundai will be able to capture larger share of the mini car market.

Hyundai also announced it plans to make India its global manufacturing hub for small cars. In its second plant, Hyundai will soon commence the production of the all-new i20, which will be exported to 95 countries around the world. By the end of 2009, Hyundai aims to produce as much as 530.000 small cars!
