Hyundai developing new mini car, smaller than i10
Hyundai Motor is reportedly developing a new minicar, that will compete against upcoming mini cars from worlds largest carmakers such as Toyota, Fiat and Volkswagen.
The unnamed mini car from Hyundai will be smaller in size than Santro or i10 models and would compete in 800 cc segment. New Hyundai micro car is expected to start rolling off assembly lines in next three or four years. It is being developed jointly by Hyundai engineers in Namyang (S. Korea) and Hyderabad (India) research centers.
Hyundai did not release any specifications on its new model, but did confirm that it will be built in India, where Hyundai produces the i10 and i20 models. The car will be both for the domestic and export markets.
New Hyundai mini will join a number of small cars that are about to be released by worlds largest automakers in the next two years. Joining the two-door Smart, will be Toyota iQ and Fiat Topolino. Other automakers that plan to unveil mini cars are Volkswagen, who plans to join the “mini car battle” with a new model, jointly developed by computer giant Apple, as well as Mazda, which will soon show a small concept car, that foretells future Mazda1 model.
