Hyundai Plans To Redesign The Santa Fe Crossover In 2010

As gas prices reach record highs, Hyundai plans to bring more fuel efficient cars and SUVs to American market. According to John Krafcik, vice president of product plannig for Hyundai Motor America, the company is focusing on fuel-efficient cars and also plans to add new engines with improved fuel efficency to their models.
Hyundai will be adding its second generation Theta engine to the Santa Fe crossover, when it receives a facelift in 2010. The same four-cylinder engine is already avaliable in the 2009 Sonata sedan and recent reviews has proven the engine to deliever plenty of power and a class leading fuel efficency numbers. The 2.4L Theta engine in Sonata is rated at 22MPG city driving, and 32MPG when highway driving.
As of now, Hyundai’s four-cylinder powerplants were imported from South Korea, but starting from next month, all of the four-bangers will be coming from Hyundai’s new engine plant in Alabama.
In addition to the new engine, the 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe will also get a six-speed automatic transmission.
For 2010, Hyundai also plans to unveil a fully redesigned Tucson SUV. Currently, the Tucson comes avaliable with a 2.7L V6 engine, but when the new model debuts, the gas-guzzling unit will be dropped in favor to a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. [Source: Autoweek]

i think it has the best interior ever built on a SUV

Hi,
It’s an awesome car.
Interior is great. But the dash light dimmer does not go low enough. The seat does not go low enough (on limited). The back seat tilts but does not move front to back.
The exterior is also great. It lacks flashing lights on outside mirrors. I would have designed it lower, also with lower suspension.
The ride is very good. Suspension a little soft, it vibrates with the 18” rims, and feels too high. It feels there could be more power, like the engine is chocked. Maybe 2 catalytic converters would have helped.

I understand the Hyuandai SanteFe is going to have a total redesign for 2011, Is there a preview picture of this & when will this be available to purchase?

Just bought a new 2010 Santa Fe. Interior/appointments are wonderful. Motor mounts are extremelt soft and allows for torque on the cv joints resulting in throttle steering, especially in an accelerated turning start. Anyone else have this challenge?

Bought 2011 FWD Sante Fe. Love the vehicle (power tailgate and backup warning sensors would be nice) however, I would NEVER buy/lease another. Since they changed the engines in the new models, there is a SEVERE torque steering problem in the FWD Sante Fe. After having 2 independent mechanics with over 25 years of experience each test drive the vehicle, I was advised that the vehicle was, indeed, unsafe for me, my passengers and other vehicles around me on the road. The FWD Sante Fe, upon hard acceleration (trying to pass someone;getting on to a highway) the vehicle sometimes pulls hard left, sometimes right and sometimes both. Hyundai/ (Mr.Krafcik/CEO) feels that this is normal and claims the independent mechanics are not “Hyundai certified”. You don’t have to be “Hyundai certified” to realize that this strong pull creates an unsafe situation. I feel(as well as the mechanics) this vehicle is unsafe and I would not recommend it to anyone. Hyundai does not stand by it’s product and just dismisses people. It is obvious that once they have your money they don’t care what happens. I feel that this is so serious I will be contacting the NTSB,IIHS,JD Powers,Consumer Digest and anyone else that I can find to report this to so no one gets hurt. The dealership has been kind enough to try getting me out of this vehicle/loan by putting me in a 2011 AWD Sante Fe which doesn’t have the issue. However, if I wanted an all wheel drive vehicle I would have bought that in the first place. Not looking forward to the extra cost or the addt’l gas money I will be spending for a heavier vehicle. Do Not Buy This Vehicle. Also, others have reported this problem in other Hyundai models so check all websites before leasing/purchasing any Hyundai vehicles. What a shame;great vehicle otherwise!!
