Hyundai is set to launch its new super-mini car, the i20 by the end of the year…

Korean largest carmaker, Hyundai Motor Company, will launch its new passenger car, reportedly named the i20, before the end of this year. This will be a larger version of its popular i10 model, that was successfully launched last year and will feature sportier design outside and more quality materials inside.

The new B-segment car, which will replace the aging Hyundai Getz will be produced in the Chennai plant (India), where new engine and transmission factories have been built for both the i10 and i20 cars. Production will start in the second-half of 2008.

The all-new i20 is expected to be available with a wide range of gasoline and diesel engines including a 1.2 and 1.4L gasoline powered four-cylinder units, as well as 1.4 and 1.6L diesel powerplants.

Mated to the fuel-sipping engines will be either a six-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic gearbox. The i20 will also feature a complete safety equipment, including sic-airbags standard and will achieve a five-star crash test rating at EuroNCAP tests.

Speaking at a press conference, Hyundai Motors India MD and CEO Heung Soo Lheem said, “the new car will meet all the EU safety and emmission standards, and our emmission rate of 119 gms/ km of carbon dioxide is one of the most environmentally friendly”. [Photosource: Autoscoop.biz ]
