2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring
Hyundai unveiled the all-new 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring at Montreal Auto Show.
Latest news on the 2009 Elantra Touring: Hyundai has used the 2008 Montreal Auto Show to officially unveil it’s wagon version of Elantra. Elantra Touring first appeared at SEMA last year as a concept called Beach Cruiser concept. Having been customized by K-Daddyz Kustomz, it featured some hot looking exterior accesories, striking orange-purple paint coat and giant panoramic sunroof.
Production version of Elantra Touring, known also as Hyundai i30 CW in Europe, might have lost some attractiveness of the concept car shown a year ago, but still cant hide it’s European styling and design genes.
The 2009 Elantra Touring will be powered with the same engine as found in 4-door Elantra. It’s a 2.0L four cylinder engine that produces 141 hp. It will be mated to either a 5-speed manual, or 4-speed automatic transmission.
Inside, there is an upscale and quality looking instrumentation with standard features such as USB and AUX ports for iPod compatibility, six airbags, ABS and an optional leather-trimmed interior.
The car goes on sale later this year as a 09 model. It’s pricing was not announced yet, but we expect it to be very competitive and spiced up with Hyundai’s legendary 10-year warranty!

The i30 looks good and so do the specs. But the only engine is the 2.0 140 hp? Where is the 5spd transmission and why aren’t there any engine choices? Where is the 2.2 172 hp?
I realize that it maybe too early to look for a crd/diesel motor here for the NA market but come on.
The engine spec is way too conservative for the U.S. This vehicle lacks the currency to take on its leading competitors like the Corolla or Civic.
What is going on with Hyundai’s product planning and strategy? I find it far too timid, if not lacking!

Ted, I think you’re referring to the 2.4 engine. That should be the powerplant that the i30 should get in states. I hope Hyundai does not cheapened out this brand and forget to arm it with the necessary competitive firepower that this car needs to compete.
I find it unconceivable that they would not offer different engine or powertrain choices for such a well designed and solid vehicle as the i30/Elantra Touring wagon.

There are several different engine options avaliable in i30 CW=Elantra Touring in Europe. You have 1.4, 1.6 diesel and petrol adn 2.0 diesel and petrol engines avaliable.
Since diesels do not sell in US yet, due to strict emission standards, and there is not larger engine than 2.0 in European Touring, I think the vehicle was not designed to incorporate larger displacement engine!
I do agree Hyundai should offer a diesel engine in US. And not only one choice, but there should be the diesel engine avaliable for every Hyundai sold on US market!

Suggestions:
- Multi-way adjustable seat for the front passenger. (One’s spouse should be have an equally comfortable seat.)
- Limited-slip differential (LSD) like the Honda Civic Si, Mini Cooper S / Clubman S, and Mazdaspeed3
- Oil pressure gauge
Questions:
- Turbo version?
- Is the Elantra Touring likely to be an IIHS “Top Safety Pick”?
- Leather interior colors?
- Accident-reducing bright exterior paint colors?
“Generally bright and brilliant colours are much better than dark colours because they reflect a lot more light and can be seen from up to four times the distance of vehicles painted a dark colour.”
“A University of California study found that the colour of an approaching car influences the driver’s judgement about how far away it is. Blue and yellow made distant objects seem closest.”
Thanks!

I bought one and like the styling. One comment about the interior: the pillar mounted tweeters look like an afterthought, the should be circular to match the other speaker grills , with maybe a chrome bezel to mirror the a/c controls and remote mirror control. I hope Hyundai reads these comments

If your passion is to travel, this is a car you have to consider. Starting at only $17,800 2009 Hyundai Elantra Touring is an affordable attractive car.
The interior is large, so you’ll feel comfortable in this car. Also the exterior design is good. This is an economy car and it is equipped with the Premium Sports Package and it is a five door model.
